What do we know about House of Dragons?
House of Dragon is a much-anticipated fantasy television series produced by HBO. It is being regarded as a prequel to the 8 seasons long fantasy drama Game of Thrones, which was one of the most-watched dramas. Its cast included Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, and Sophie Turner, to name a few. With a high rating of 4.6/5, Game of Thrones aired from 2011 to 2019. House of Dragons is based on the novel Fire & Blood, written by George R. R. Martin. He is also a special member of the Game of Throne’s crew, as told earlier.
This time, George R. R. Martin will head the show as the showrunner. He will be joined by Ryan Condal. He is a producer and screenwriter, familiar to that of Martin’s. Condal was also a part of works like ‘Colony’ and ‘Hercules.’ Also, Miguel Sapochnik, who directed some prominent episodes of the previous series like ‘Hardhome,’ will be a part of this prequel. Other producers of the show are Vince Gerardis, Sara Lee Hess, and Ron Schmidt. The scores of the show will be done by Game of Thrones and Westworld composer Ramin Djawadi.
The storyline of House of Dragons
This is a story based on George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood, which sets 300 years back in the Targaryen dynasty. The story depicts the rise and fall of this dynasty. It shows the House Targaryen, which was the House that gave Daenerys Targaryen, the mother of dragons. The story will start with the conquest of Aegon. This marks the establishment of King’s Landing as the world capital and the new world order. Also, the formation of the Iron Throne.
The plot consists of a great civil war between Aegon II and his half-sister Rhaenyra over their father’s throne. After some large battles and bloodshed for two years, both Aegon II and Rhaenya died mysterious deaths. Although the book ends with the death of “the last dragon,” there is no link between this story and that of Game of Thrones. The gap between both of them is not clearly stated by Martin. No invents in Fire and Blood directly lead to the events of Game of Thrones. Although Martin has made some statements about the sequel of Fire and Blood, there is quite a stir about the possible digressions from the original book during the prequel’s adaption.
The cast of House of Dragons and their characters
Just like the cast of Game of Thrones, this series will have some prominent actors in its list of lead roles. Paddy Considine from HBO’s famous ‘The Outsider’ will be shown as King Viserys Targaryen. Olivia Cooke will play the role of the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King. Her character name will be Alicent Hightower. Emma D’Arcy will be seen as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, who is the king’s first-born child. Steve Toussaint is roped in as Lord Corlys Velaryon, ‘The Sea Snake.’ Rhys Ifans will play Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King.
Fans are waiting for this series to go on the floors. After Game of Thrones, the talks about its prequels were always heated up. But many of them got cancelled, including the one starring Naomi Watts. Finally, the viewers have an opportunity, though it is still dim, to witness the past of Game of Thrones.
