What Happened in the Last Four Seasons of ‘In Treatment’?
Many Patients consult with a psychiatrist at a private practice every season, and we come to know that the psychiatrist is himself under pressure, under questions, and starts doubting his own motives. Now, who is the psychiatrist? Well, this section will tell about the protagonist in brief. The way the series is designed and developed certainly targets every possible reason for depression that a person generally suffers through. In this section of the article, the readers will know briefly about all the four seasons of the fabulous series. Also, about the life and problems of the patients which might be relatable to some out there. Now, let’s continue.
In Treatment Season 1
In the first season that was out around 11 years ago, a 50-year-old psychologist, Paul, helps people. He has some patients, among which a lady named Laura finds herself attracted towards the psychologist, Paul. She is one of the patients, and her problems are related to a physical relationship with an older man. The lady, later on, starts another physical and unsatisfactory bond with a boy who is also a patient of depression. Now, unaware of all these happening, Paul accepts that he is attracted to Laura as well. Well, he too is so restless about the happenings in his life that he consults with his therapist, Gina. But Gina couldn’t help Paul, and then things got complicated.
The boy, Alex with whom Laura was attracted, was a fighter pilot who was depressed because he unintentionally killed Iraqi school-going children. When this guy returns to the training once again after he meets with Paul, he dies during training exercises. But, this was a matter of gossip as it seemed to be suicide because of overthinking. Then comes Sophie, who was a teenager, but she has a pleasant relationship with her gymnastic coach. Meanwhile, she doesn’t have a good bond with her parents as they are divorcees. However, this patient was a success, and she started thinking and positively analyzing things. Next was a couple who was frustrated and was almost about to break apart. According to the husband of the lady, the therapy was beneficial, but the lady isn’t happy as they broke apart.
In Treatment Season 2
In the next season, Paul is now single and alone as the couple divorced and his wife is not living with him. So, he left his home and settled in Brooklyn. If you remember, there was Alex in the previous season who died and people blamed Paul for the loss. So, Alex’s father and Senior were determined to put Paul behind the bars. Paul was busy with this situation and he was also attending to his patients. But the season was revolving around the burdens paul was handling because of Alex’s Death.
Alex Senior blames Paul for neglecting the depressed Alex, and he should have informed the military that Alex isn’t fit. However, Alex senior said that he would end all the lawsuits against Paul if he admitted that he was responsible for the loss. Paul almost agreed, but he went to Gina, and Gina convinced him. As a result, Paul refused the offer given by Alex senior. In this season, some patients were used as witnesses and others actors too who were used for the case. Well, Gina and Paul were the same people who were in the first season of In Treatment.
In Treatment Season 3
In the third season, the number of episodes and the interest of the makers both decreased. Why? Because the series started losing its charm. The makers and cast members were doing their best, but the show wasn’t able to gain more audiences from other shows too. However, HBO was okay with the release of the third season, so the shooting started. Now, this time the makers didn’t take the help of the Israeli series. This time the stories and concepts were different. Only three patients and Paul has a different therapist, Adele Brouse, not Gina. Also, Paul overcomes his loneliness as he finds himself a young and beautiful girlfriend. Loneliness can, too, put a person in depression, right? Here comes Sunil, Paul’s Patient.
He is a resident of Calcutta who lost his wife but has his son with him. As a result, He, his son, and his daughter-in-law shift to America. Even if he has a family, Sunil wants his wife as he is feeling lonely without her. So, he comes to Paul to cure his depression. The second patient was Frances, a renowned and successful actress. She is sad as she has difficulty while interacting with a huge audience from a stage. Also, she forgets her lines on stage. She is not only distressed with stage problems, but the divorcee also has a sister whose health is critical and an arrogant daughter. In this case, she had to come to Paul. The next patient was Jesse, who is gay and has a lot of social issues going on in his life, because of which his mind is disturbed.
In Treatment Season 4
In this season, there is a new therapist, and again a new story begins with fresh struggles and fresh pains. The therapist is Uzo Aduba as Brooke. She also has sessions at her private practice with her patients, just like the previous therapist, Paul. Firstly, Eladio, who was one of Brooke’s patients, calls her. But Brooke tries to keep herself away from the person at midnight. Eladio is a guy who thinks he needs a medical doctor so that he can be prescribed something because of his mental health. Brooke tries to meet him virtually so that firstly, she can understand him better before taking any further steps. With every passing day, the boy gets more arrogant but opens up slowly.
Brooke understood that this behavior was because Eladio lives in his master’s house, and he isn’t allowed to speak up about anything in the house. The next patients are Colin and Laila, on whom Brooke is working. Brooke used to have tough times while working on Colin’s mental health as he refused to open up in front of the lady. Further, Laila is a s*x addict, so she is taken by her grandmother to Brooke so that she can lead a life just like another girl. Well, Brooke is herself a patient, but she has to solve others’ problems. She breaks off sometimes, but she recollects herself, anyway.
