Ashly Miller created this series for Netflix. Netflix is the co-producer of the series, along with American video game developer company Valve. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood is based on the Dota video game franchise by Valve. The first season of the series will feature the gameplay and story of Dota 2. Netflix announced the series in February 2021. The animation of the series is provided by Studio Mir. It is a South Korean animation studio that works for animations in both South Korea and the United States.
The series will have a total of eight episodes, each with an approx running time of 20 minutes. The series was in production for two and a half years. It is a multiplayer online battle arena video game and a sequel to the Defense of the Ancients (DotA). The game is played in matches between two teams of five players. Each team occupies and defends its own separate base on the map. Each of the players has to independently control a powerful character, know as a “hero.” The hero has all the unique abilities and differed from styles of play.
A critic from Metacritic labeled the game as one of the greatest video games of all time. It won the IGN’s People Choice Awards in 2011. Also, in December 2012, the game was listed as a nominee for their Game of the Year award and the best escort game of the year by PC Gamer. Dota 2 won the best escort award from PC Gamer.
The Plot of the Series:
It is a fantasy series following the story of Davion. He is a renowned Dragon Knight and is devoted to wiping out the scourge from the entire world. Along his journey, he will encounter a powerful and ancient eldwurm and the noble However, Princess Mirana. Mirana is on a secret mission of her own. Also, the ancient eldwurm is a Slyrak, a dragon. As he gets more involved with Mirana and eldwurm, Davion finds himself in the middle of dangerous events that are much larger than he ever thought.
As a dragon slayer, Davion had searched for Slyrak for years. However, their meeting disappoints him as Slyark is not quite what Davion imagined. The ancient dragon is not frail, its wings have tattered, and it only has a few remaining scales left. Moreover, its fire-gouts are no more threatening than a pack of wet matchsticks. Seeing that there’s no honor in killing such a frail dragon, Davion decides to leave it and let it die in peace. However, he hears a voice in his head and realizes that it was Slyrak. The dragon wishes for the dragon slayer to grant home honor with death in combat.

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will be released on 25th March 2021. Considering the show’s popularity, there are high chances that Netflix will renew the series for its second season soon after its release.
