Taking inspiration from Roald Dahl’s infamous short story,’ Lamb to the Slaughter’. Vinil Mathew brought a compelling romantic thriller to Netflix, which might leave you wanting more. The performances were promised and delivered with the likes of Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, and Harshvardhan Rane taking the charge of the film. Despite teasing as a dark thriller, Haseen Dillruba comes out with a straightforward story with not that much confusion to answer for. So anyway, here is our take of everything explained from the ending of Haseen Dillruba.
Haseen Dillruba from the trailer was expected to have this dark plot surrounding the character of Taapsee Pannu. As in Rani, but what the movie delivered was a simple murder mystery which only delivers in the final moments of the film. What we witness throughout the film is a love story that hardly has a built for ending murder or hints of it. Whatever takes place is happening at the end that comes off as the main aim of the film. So let’s look at the plot summary of Haseen Dillruba, and get its conflicts, character arcs, and ending explained.
Haseen Dillruba Plot Summary
Haseen Dillruba opens up with a gas blast in a household that sees Rani losing her husband in the process. She is left shocked as she was feeding the dogs and heard the blast and watches her house burn from the outside while staring at her husband’s hand that has flown out. The tattoo on the cut hand proves it was Rishab. Even though it seems like an accident, the cops suspect the story and try to question Rani before we go into a flashback.
The flashback tells us the story of our main characters of Rani and Rishabh has. Rishabh is looking for a girl to marry. After previously getting heartbroken, times have been difficult until he came to meet Rani with his family. Although Rani isn’t that one homely girl Rishabh was looking for, he still falls for her and decides to marry her. What follows is a failed marriage with neither of them connecting emotionally or physically.
Amidst keeping the marriage intact, Neel comes into the picture who is Rishabh’s cousin. He comes to stay there for a while, and his charming personality and built physique drives Rani crazy. What started out as a simple case of attraction and flirting turned into a legitimate affair between the two. This comes to a point where Rani completely falls behind Neel and lets him know that she is gonna tell Rishabh about the affair. Then they can leave and settle down for real. But that’s where tables turn as Neel leaves Rani behind without letting her know. Thus proving all he wanted was to have fun with Rani.
Rani, later on, builds up the courage to tell Rishabh, and things don’t go down well between them. Rishabh leaves and tries to find and beat Neel up only to fail. Coming back home, Rishabh lets Rani stay but in turn, also tortures her from time to time. There comes a time Rani clearly asks Rishabh to kill her, but he just can’t. Thus a fling of love starts sparkling between them, and the fire reignites. Amidst this flashback, the cops attempt to crack the mystery continues failing time and again.
Haseen Dillruba Ending Explained
A while later, into the future as Rishabh and Rani are living happily. They come across Neel once, and he wonders how happy they are together. This leads to a confrontation, but Neel escapes. Neel returns on the day Rishabh and Rani were about to have people coming over. Soon, we meet with the scene that opened up the movie, the blast.
The ending which saw Neel returning was because he came to cause trouble again. Rishabh had a complaint about Neel being a sex offender and had submitted it to society. Thus the society had him kicked out of the place. Now it seems like Rani, happy with Rishabh didn’t fit with him after he had an affair with Rani. As they talk it down, Rishabh comes to blackmailing, stating he has the video-recording of him and Rani’s engaging with each other.
What started out as a heated conversation, turned into a brawl. Neel was on his way to kill Rishabh until Rani interfered, attacking Neel with a mutton leg piece she had bought initially when Neel had come first. The attack caused Neel’s death. Now to clean the evidence, Rishabh plots the plan to cut Neel’s as well as his hand. He places Neel’s body near the gas and asks Rani to take the murder weapon away.
Rani leaves to buy a new mutton leg piece as well as get the murder weapon leg piece cut to pieces. Then she feeds the murder weapon to dogs outside. Meanwhile, Rishabh makes the gas blast leaving his hand behind Neel’s body to make it look it was him. Rishabh manages to escape and reconciles with Rani later on as they escape. The cops try their best to break down the case but with limited time in their hands. But the case is closed with Neel under suspicion but missing.
