The 20th season of Family Guy is coming to an end soon. To be sure, it’s a remarkable achievement, but the show’s quality has deteriorated to the point that there’s little reason to be excited. The plan was for Family Guy Season 20 Episode 15 to end on a high note by returning to the “Road to…” formula, which has produced some of the show’s best episodes. Brian and Stewie’s globetrotting adventures lead them to the exotic region of India once more this time. When they first visited India, it was at the end of Season 14, but this time was plain ridiculous. The musical had all it needed to be an epic adventure filled with romance and masterfully planned dance moments. Instead, we were treated to a distressingly familiar episode of Family Guy.
The impetus for Brain and Stewie’s most recent journey was strong enough. While flirting on the phone with his tech support representative, Padma, Brian managed to turn a damaged computer into a love connection. This opening scene relied a little too heavily on Brian’s smarmy, self-absorbed writer persona, but it did contain a few chuckles. Brian’s admission that he doesn’t understand time zones (and then attempting to explain it away by pointing out that India utilizes the metric system) was rather good.
Family Guy Season 20 Episode 15 Review And Recap
Unfortunately, this episode quickly fell into pandemonium, especially around the time it became evident that a Peter-centric subplot would be included. The Peter subplot had its moments, but it wasn’t quite as entertaining as the India theme. Peter’s bingo fixation was, at best, another example of him picking up a new interest and then carrying it to absurd levels. At worst, it served as a reminder of what a jerk he is. If it wasn’t terrible enough that Peter took Joe’s favorite hobby, he also failed to learn a lesson or repent for his actions. He simply stopped playing bingo since it was more convenient than having to spend time with his children.
Peter went from being a classic sitcom dead – loud and obnoxious but yet well-intentioned – to a downright repulsive human being with no love for his family at some point in the last several years. That amount of hopelessness isn’t even amusing; it’s just depressing. There’s a reason Panic Volushka’s webcomic about the Simpsons, Family Guy, and King of the Hill is so popular. In future seasons, it would be fantastic to see the program tone things down in that regard.

The Usual India Stereotyping
With so much time devoted to Peter’s current craze, it’s no surprise that Brian and Stewie’s trip to India fell short of the “Road to…” episodes’ typically high standards. The writers seemed to be ticking off a list of every pop culture prejudice about India for the most part. It’s filthy and crammed with people. They’ve got those strange spots on their brows. Cows and gods with extra arms are worshipped by these people. Gandhi’s name comes up. When Stewie’s stupid “New Delhi” pun is the trip’s most memorable joke, it’s a bad indication.
A Some What Not So Memorable Ending
To be honest, the Brian/Padma plot came to a satisfying conclusion. Brian ditched his aggressive ladies’ guy act and put up a genuine attempt to seek Padma’s hand in marriage. He did succeed in rescuing her from a loveless marriage, despite the fact that he ultimately failed. In terms of Brian’s normal disastrous romances, it was actually a pretty good performance. Not that having Stewie butt in and deflate Brian’s hopeful assumption wasn’t amusing. “It’s about the journey, not the goal,” followed by “No, it’s not.” This was terrible, and you failed.”
The lack of a good musical number was the most perplexing aspect of this episode for me. The highly animated musical scene set to a catchy original tune is pretty much a standard for the “Road to…” episodes. Despite the fact that “Road to India” closed with the traditional Bollywood montage, it was neither very long nor ambitious nor particularly memorable. It’s a sad day when even Family Guy’s musical sequences can’t save the show.
Final Thoughts On Family Guy Season 20 Episode 15
“Road to India” should have been the ideal way for Family Guy to end Episode 15 on a high note and reflect on the show’s earlier, more successful years. Unfortunately, this latest “Road to…” episode fell short of the previous ones. It was too concentrated on Peter and not enough on how to make use of the Indian environment. This episode lacked even a great musical number, which was certainly the biggest disappointment of them all.
