Great news for fans of Expanse, the fourth season of the show is returning on Amazon. After the Syfy network cancelled the series, it seems Amazon has picked it up. The show was picked up by Amazon after more than a hundred thousand fans signed online petitions to continue the show. Fans went as far as flying a banner over Amazon Studio’s Santa Monica headquarters. The banner said “Save the Expanse”. According to reports, Jeff Bezos himself was a big fan of the show and was saddened when it was cancelled.
Alcon Entertainment Co-Founders and Co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson expressed their excitement and gratitude towards Jeff Bezos and Amazon for having faith in the show in a press release.
The show is based on the ongoing series of books by James S. A. Corey which is actually the penname of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. The upcoming fourth season will be based on the fourth novel in the series, Cibola Burn which was released in 2014.
According to the reports, the show which has till now been limited to only Earth, Mars and the Belt will explore further unchartered territories. The fourth season will be set in the world of Ilus, which is said to be the first world to be colonized by the humans outside their system.
Showrunner Naren Shankar in a recent interview teased that with the backing of Amazon and its resources, fans can expect a much grander scale. Also since there are no restrictions on the time limit on Amazon, fans can expect 50 minute episodes, up from the usual 43 minute time limit.
The fourth season is reported to have 10 episodes. The season will come out sometime in 2019. Recently it was revealed at the San Diego Comic Con that shooting for the fourth season will start in September.
