Dragon Ball Super Movie

If you’re a fan of the Dragon Ball franchise, you’ve got every right to be excited right now, because new life has been breathed into it. A few months ago, Toei Animation announced that a new Dragon Ball movie is going to premiere in. 2018. A few weeks back, we found out that the movie will actually be a sequel of the Dragon Ball Super series, and not just some Dragon Ball movie. Yesterday, out of nowhere, we got a 30 second teaser trailer for the movie, and it has got everyone pumped up for the movie already. Yes, Dragon Ball Super is ending this Sunday, but the story will continue with the movie, and it’ll probably return after the movie as well.

One thing that is strikingly different in the preview is the animation, and the art style. About a week ago, we got news that Tadayoshi Yamamuro would not be responses for the character designs in the movie. Instead, Naohiro Shintani would take over with the character designs, and at that time, fans weren’t quite sure how to react to this news. There was definitely a mixed reaction, but I think most of the Dragon Ball fandom agrees that it looks much better this way. Shintani’s design agrees with me more because I think it is a lot more fluid, and the smears, along with the easiness look fantastic. We’ve missed this on Dragon Ball Super, and I think the movie will definitely make up for it. Tatsuya Nagamine worked on the storyboard for the 30 second teaser, which he even shared on Twitter a couple of months ago. As far as the animation featured in the teaser is concerned, I think Ryo Onishi worked on the animation, and it looks fabulous. Just imagine what the likes of Tate, and Shida would do with this flowing designs.

Coming to the story, we can see Goku warming up, and getting ready to fight a new opponent we have never seen before. No it isn’t Bardock, or Broly. It may be Yamoshi, or someone from Universe 6. It may even be someone from one of the erased Universes that we’ve never seen before. We also know that the movie will be tied to the ending of the Dragon Ball Super anime, and will definitely have something to do with the wish from the Super Dragon Balls. A few days later, when Super ends, we might have a clear idea of what’s coming our way. I think this is going to be a completely new Saiyan character, but I could be wrong.

As far as the release dates go, the movie was supposed to premiere in Japan on December 14, 2018. Now, it seems like Toei Animation is aiming at a global release for the new movie. It’ll be released worldwide on December 14 2018, so we don’t have to wait around for the movie to begin airing in other parts of the world. I think this is a great step, and it feels like they finally realize the power of the Dragon Ball fandom around the globe. Things look really promising for the Dragon Ball Super series’ continuation, and I hope you all are just as excited as I am.
