The Dragon Ball franchise is often called the father of all animes, and it sure deserves the title. Probably the most successful and popular anime franchise, Dragon Ball owes much of its success to its compelling storyline, fights and especially the character designs.
It’s very difficult to draw a character which could be loved by millions. Often times highly anticipated character designs don’t work among fans resulting in disappointment both for fans and the artist. But, Akira Toriyama isn’t one of those.
He has drawn countless fighters who are loved by all around the world and Dragon Ball has the most memorable figures. It’s characters like Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin etc which makes the series so entertaining and intense at the same time. These characters have occupied a special place in our heart which can’t be replaced.
And now, the new series, Dragon Ball Super was successful in giving the fans the same amount of justice. From the series, Beerus has also become a fan favorite and fans are too excited to know about his origins.
Toriyama took inspirations from his pet cat to make this feline character. Thanks to a translation, fans finally got to know this secret of the God Of Destruction. According to the translation, Beerus’s birth details were mentioned in the 30th Anniversary Dragon Ball Super history book.
The character Beerus is based on a Sphynx Cat called Debo.
According to 30th Anniversary Dragon Ball Super history book:
“The new character Beerus is based on sensei’s favorite cat. The new character Beerus, God of Destruction, appeared in the film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. In fact, the model for Beerus and his feline appearance was the anime-crazy Toriyama-sensei’s beloved house cat.”
Thanks to @Herms98, fans can see the photo of Debo ‘the cat,’ on Twitter. It belongs to Akira Toriyama and the physical characters of both Beerus and Debo match so much. Fans now wondering, “Can Debo trounce Goku?”
