Dragon Ball is undeniably one of the biggest franchises to exist. It has a tremendous influence in the anime industry as well as in the hearts of many kids as well as adults. The franchise knows how to celebrate the manga’s anniversaries with all their might. For the 20th anniversary, the event was celebrated for fifteen days (16 July 2005 to 31 August 2005) in Tokyo. Again, in the next decade, the 30th anniversary of the manga was celebrated by releasing the Dragon Ball 30th Anniversary Special Manga, which featured Akira Toriyama as Robotoriyama. With the next major anniversary approaching, Dragon Ball has already started preparing for it. The Dragon Ball 40th anniversary is going to be yet another blast seems from the early preparations for the big day. Although it’s still three years away, we already know there is a lot to look forward to on that auspicious day.
Dragon Ball was Shonen Jump’s part of the big four. The manga is written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama. It was launched in 1984, and in 1995, the manga came to an end with more than 500 chapters compiled in 42 volumes. The Dragon Ball television show turned out a big hut to date with fans still praising the fun in it. A spin-off manga, Dragon Ball Super, was also released, which also received an anime adaptation. Dragon Ball is adored in the anime and manga community, and I bet everyone is anticipating to know what surprise the Dragon Ball 40th anniversary will bring to them!

Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary
The anniversary will celebrate the 4th decade since the Dragon Ball manga was launched. Of course, this is a huge piece of news for Dragon Ball fans worldwide. The Dragon Ball manga launched back in the December of 1984. The manga will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2024. Still too early to be talking about the event? Well, not so much because the franchise has a grand way of commemorating the Dragon Ball 40th anniversary.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the manga, a DRAGON BALL Super Gallery Project is being conducted. This gallery will feature the different covers of the 42 volumes of the Dragon Ball manga but redesigned by the different mangaka. The event will officially begin on the 4th of August. Different mangaka will randomly select a volume of Dragon Ball and recreate the volume’s cover. This recreated cover will feature in the Saikyo Jump issue every month. This will continue for the next 42 months till November 2024.
There has been no announcement about which mangaka will be taking part in the event. However, according to popular rumours, Hajime Isayama (Attack on Titan), Eiichiro Oda (One Piece), Yusuke Murata (One Punch Man), and Tite Kubo (Bleach) might be a part of this big event. The mangaka will use their own style of art to re-illustrate the Dragon Ball covers. The only revealed participant so far is Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto).
Masashi Kishimoto For Dragon Ball’s 40th Anniversary
Celebrating the upcoming anniversary of Dragon Ball, Masashi Kishimoto took the first step of the DRAGON BALL Super Gallery Project. On July 19, 2021, it was revealed that Masashi Kishimoto had re-designed the cover of the 11th volume of the manga. Fans of both the franchise are in love with Kishimoto’s art.
