Disenchantment’s story is set in the fictional patriarchal medieval kingdom of Dreamland. The plot revolves around Bean, who is a teenage, rebellious, alcoholic, adventurous, gentle, selfless, and fearless princess. Her full name is Princess Tiabeanie Mariabeanie De La Rochambeau Grunkwitz. Despite her rebellious personality, she still cares for the people of Dreamland, her father, and her friends. Over the course of the show, she begins to become aware that she has magical powers that produce black lightening. This is possibly because of the magic granted to her ancestors when they made a deal to become more powerful.

Her other companion is her destructive but caring own personal demon, Luci. The trio goes on adventures in different places. The King eventually gets fed up with the failed tests, and later, he learns from his advisor, Odval, the three-eyed Prime Minister of Dreamland, that he still needs one more ingredient to successfully create the potion. He then sends Bean and Luci to find the Eternity Pendant. On the way to find it, the pair run into Big Jo, who is an exorcist who tried to kill Luci but failed, and later, he kidnapped Elfo as leverage. He then captures Bean and her companions and takes them to the ruined city of Cremorrah, where the vial is hidden. The three of them later attempt to escape with the vial, and they succeed in doing so. They then return to Dreamland only to find that they have a new problem which is that Elfo is only half-elf and King Zog banishes him.

There is also Queen Oona, King Zog’s second and former wife, and Bean’s stepmother, who is a humanoid amphibian creature from Dankmire who married into the family as part of an alliance between the kingdoms. Prince Merkimer from the kingdom of Bentwood was initially arranged to marry Bean but was later turned into a pig. And Queen Dagmar, Bean’s mother, and King Zog’s first wife, is a horrible person who wants to force Bean to complete her family’s debt to the Underworld and finish her destiny, but Bean refuses to do so.

Meanwhile, hiding in his room, Derek finds a book with a secret history of the Kings of Dreamland with a few pages torn out and is found by Odval.
