He has now been hiding under the identity of a local shopkeeper named Jimmy Lindsay. Here, he started to develop a relationship with the town’s chief of police, Angela Bishop. Dexter has been successful in suppressing his urge for serial killing, but as a series of incidents occur at Iron Lake, he has started to fear that the “dark passenger” within him will make itself known. But before that, let’s see what happened at the end of Dexter Season 8.
Dexter is a crime drama television series that follows a man named Dexter Morgan. He is a forensic technician working for the Miami Metro Police Department. But he also lives an alternate life as a serial killer. The only code for his parallel life is that he will only kill killers that have got away from the Justice System. In a way, the show could also be dubbed as Killer x Killer. In Season 8, Dexter is forced to face his past as Dr. Evelyn Vogel returns back to Miami. She is a psychiatrist nicknamed the Psychopath Whisperer. She is known to have created the code for Morgan. Meanwhile, there is also a new serial killer in town who is known to remove pieces of his victim’s brains. Lastly, Debra had found out about his brother. And ever since then, she has been trying to deal with her actions.
What Happened in Dexter Season 8 Ending?
In the penultimate episode of the show, Debra is shot down by Saxon as she is rushed to the hospital. During this, Dexter had managed to get away from Elway as he, Hannah, and Harrison were heading off to Argentina. This is when Dexter decides to run back to the hospital and meet Debra. He makes use of a bomb scare. He started to get away as Hannah and Harrison head towards Jacksonville Airport by bus. Elway was there waiting for them, but the two managed to get into the airport. While Saxon had already shot Debra, he knew that he still had to finish the job. This is when he is spotted by Dexter and arrested by Angel. Debra had a successful surgery. However, she goes brain dead after she suffers a stroke due to a blood clot.
Enraged by the death of his sister, Dexter heads to confront Saxon in the cell. Saxon threatens to kill Dexter with a pen when Dexter punctures Saxon’s carotid artery with it. All of this was captured on camera. Even so, Angel and Quinn realize that Dexter did it, they decide to label it as self-defense by Dexter. He gets back to the hospital to fetch his brain-dead sister. Dexter removed her life support as he took her to the sea and dropped her. After this, Dexter calls Harrison and Hannah and says goodbye and how he loves them. He gets into his boat and drives off in an apparent suicide towards a hurricane. The news about the same was read by Hannah a few days later in Buenos Aires. But in reality, Dexter was still alive under a secret identity as a lumberman in Oregon.
Many fans disliked the ending of the show to even call it the worst season finale in a TV series. But in reality, the ending made sense in a way. No matter how much Dexter could hide his urge to kill, there is no guarantee that he would not attract further threats in the future. The only way he could protect Hannah and Harrison was to get away from them. In the entirety of the series, we could see how Dexter wanted people around him. And as everything began to look fine for him, Dexter had to make the tough decision to leave it all behind. In the meantime, the fact that Dexter wasn’t dead gave the possibility for the series to continue in the future. And this is now very much happening with the limited series called Dexter: New Blood.
