Devilman Crybaby Director Reveals New Anime Film Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara

Masaaki Yuasa made a name for himself after the very hit Devilman Crybaby anime. During the Tokyo International Film Festival, Yuasa announced that he would he is working on a new movie. The movie is titled, Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara. The English title of the movie has not been confirmed. The movie will open throughout Japan early next summer. The original story of the movie is a romantic comedy.

The story follows a young woman who loves surfing and, a young man who is a firefighter. Yuasa revealed that the film would have a lot of exciting scenes and there will be a contrast drawn between elements of water and fire.

Here is the official synopsis of the movie—
After entering university, Hinako moves to a coastal town. She loves to surf, and when she is riding the waves, she feels fearless. However, Hinako feels uncertain about her future. When a fire wreaks havoc in the town, Hinako encounters young firefighter Minato. As they surf and spend more time together, Hinako feels drawn to someone like Minato who devotes himself to helping other people. Hinako also holds a special place in Minato’s heart.

Minato Hinageshi: He is 21 years old, and he works a firefighter. He is a hard worker and doesn’t shy away from work.

Hinako Mukaimizu: Hinako is a 19-year-old University student. She loves to surf, and she is quite skilled at it. She seems carefree and joyous but, she is worried about her future.

Yuasa has completed all the storyboards, and he is currently working on the animation. He also admitted that the work on the movie is behind schedule. Yuasa hasn’t revealed the voice cast of the movie as well. Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara will be his first new work since The Night is Short Walk On, Girl, Lu over the wall, and DEVILMAN crybaby.

Yuasa said, “I did not make Lu over the wall as a love story, so I decided to make this a love story.”
