What has happened to Demon Slayer so far?
The story takes place in the Taisho era of Japan, where demons are an enormous threat to humanity. However, a young boy, Kamado Tanjiro, is unaware of these circumstances. He lives a peaceful life with his family in the mountains. Tanjiro is the only earner in his family after his father’s death. The young boy sells charcoal in a nearby village. One day he got late while coming back from selling charcoal. Therefore, an old man living near the foot of the mountains invites him to spend the night. Tanjiro agrees to the old man’s request. Further, the old man tells him about demons and how they feed on humans, but the young boy thinks of them as fairy tales.
The next morning Tanjiro reaches his home. However, his entire world turned upside down upon seeing his entire family slaughtered. He spots his little sister, Nezuko, who was still alive. But she was not in great shape. So, Tanjiro rushes to a doctor with her wounded sister. But his life took a strange twist as his sister began turning into a demon. Nezuko soon attacks her elder brother after turning into a demon. A mysterious man arrives and protects Tanjiro from her sister. That man introduces himself as Giyu Tomioka, a demon slayer who hunts demons. But Nezuko differed from other demons, as she still had her human emotions, even after turning into a demon. Therefore, Giyu doesn’t kill Nezuko.
Tomioka asks Tanjiro to visit Sakonji Urokodaki, who trained Giyu to become a demon slayer. Thus, he visits Urokodaki and soon learns “Water- Breathing,” a style to kill demons, from Urokodaki. After his training, Tanjiro takes part in an exam, and after passing the exam, he officially becomes a demon slayer. Then he goes on a journey with his sister to kill terrorizing demons and while looking for clues to reach Muzan, who is the mastermind. Muzan is the progenitor of a demon as he’s the only one capable of turning a human into a terrifying demon. While on the journey, Tanjiro also comes across many powerful demons, but he defeats them with friends like Zenitsu and Inosuke, whom he met on the journey. He continues along with his friends to encounter powerful demons and allies.
