In 2013, the BL Dakaichi Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu was serialized in a yaoi magazine, Magazine Be x Boy. This manga series was written and illustrated by Hashigo Sakurabi. Dakaichi also received an anime adaptation in the year 2018. This manga is still ongoing. Dakaichi also has a movie containing the chapters in the Spain Arc. Recently, an exciting announcement was made regarding the movie.
BL manga and manhwa have been around for a long time and so have their readers. Not only this, but each year, budding authors and illustrators are coming up with new stories in this genre. Besides this, lately, BL stories from media like manga, manhwa, and web novels have been adapted into anime as well as live actions. Thus, this area of media keeps growing in the coming years. However, before these new BL stories, we had some BLs that were most loved by fans, and some of them still are.
What is Dakaichi Otoko 1-i ni Odosarete Imasu about?
Dakaichi Otoko is one of the earliest BL manga to have gained popularity. It is a story revolving around the world of actors and their stardom. We are introduced to Takato Saijo, the protagonist of the manga. He has been famous since he was a child as he worked as a child actor. Takato grew up to be a handsome man. Along with winning awards for his acting, he also has been the winner of the “sexiest man of the year” title repeatedly for five years. One day, he opens a magazine, confidently knowing that he will be the winner for the year too, only to find his name as the runner-up. He, then, furiously notices that his spot has been taken by an actor who is new in the industry. This actor is Junta Azumaya.
Junta, thus, becomes Takato’s rival. However, this rivalry is only one-sided as Junta admires Takato so much that he ends up falling in love with him. Besides this, Junta has a puppy-like personality which is different from Takato’s kitten-like personality. However, Junta’s innocence vanishes when he is with Takato. When Takato is upset and angry about not making it to the number one spot, he tries to calm himself down by drinking. Sadly, he goes overboard with it and is caught by Junta on video. Junta then uses the video to blackmail him into getting whatever Junta wants. The story continues as Takato and Junta are cast in the same film. They began having intimate moments as they faced other conflicts in the story.
