Through these vivid vignettes, we see the Empire’s leaders thoughtfully debating profound societal and spiritual changes, while in the peaceful countryside, the Prince’s steady maturation continues under the Duke’s judicious guidance, personal growth, and the shaping of a just ruler intersects with the nation finding its righteous path forward.
Much work remains to bridge divisions between urban and rural, secular and sacred, servant and master, as both Prince and Empire stand at the cusp of a new era.
Asha explains the dire situation that led the destitute locals to scavenge anything they could find, even stripping the manor of wood, to survive after a devastating fire ravaged the nearby forests. Despite the sad fate of the once grand Pervaz estate, Asha cautions understanding for the people’s plight.
The lack of family portraits also raises concerns, but Asha notes that few artists would risk the dangers of traveling to this unstable region merely for commissions. Still, Carlisle insists on having a portrait painted to commemorate the family and keep this image of the Pervaz clan close at hand.
Meanwhile, the priests secretly meet, seething with contempt for Carlisle’s impiety. They expected the supposedly blessed Prince to be a pious role model, yet in their eyes, he is a debauched atheist and a disappointment.

Scheming ruthlessly, the priests plot to sabotage Carlisle’s reputation and position Matias as successor. Their ambitions would reshape the Empire into a harsh theocratic state under religious rule. The High Priest Owen, warped by childhood abuse, found identity in the temple’s zealotry. His traumatic past fuels an extremist vision to create a ‘pure’ holy empire, no matter the cost.
Through dialogues, we gain insight into the plight of commoners, the perilous state of the borderlands, and the brewing religious tensions threatening to fracture the Empire.
