Episode 5 of the OCN K-drama ‘Chimera’ is on its way and things are getting scarier. After the abduction and murder of detective Ju Seok weren’t enough to shake the media and the police. Another explosion and abduction took place. Along with that we also got a flashback of 1984, in Macheon. When we saw the killer killing a person the same way Joo Seok died. Burning up in flames as soon as the water touched him. The KCSI investigator working on the explosion case reached the office to work. In the dark office, he noticed the unusual oxygen cylinders and blinking lights.
With graffiti of ‘Chimera’ appearing on the wall, before he could make sense of it, the room exploded just like it did before when it sent Jae Hwan to the hospital. The police chief, Bae Seung Gwan, talking about Joo Seok, is sick of the media picking up old cases. As explained by another officer, the similarities between the current explosions and the ones from the ‘1984’s Chimera explosions’ are way too much. Resulting in reporters creating all the hype. Seung Gwan has now sworn to catch the culprit within two weeks to pay to respect the late honorable officer.
But with the suspect brought in by Jae Hwan, officer Bae Seung Gwan got in some trouble with his ‘friends’. Arresting the surgeon Lee Joong Yeop and keeping him in the interrogation room without a warrant. Backed by the business giant ‘Seoryeon’, it didn’t take Joong Yeop to get out of custody. But with the points made during his time in jail, things have taken a mild turn. But how did the things get to the arrest of the doctor? Here is the whole story!
Making a ‘Special Investigation Unit’ and recruiting Go Gwang Soo at the station to work on the case. Seung Gwan has already given him a heads up, telling him about Joo Seok. Not aware of anything, Jae Hwan gets back to the station to find some commotion near his desk. And gets to know that his case has been handed to the. Getting into an argument with Gwang Soo and not giving him the case files, the other detectives started cursing at him. In opposite, being the only witness of the explosion, Jae Hwan became the prime suspect and witness.
The doctor in charge of the post mortem came to visit Jae Hwan and gave him the ‘Chimera’ lighter telling him that it was in his father’s pocket. Asking the doctor if he could give him some hints but gets nothing much out of his father’s old friend. Going into the interrogation room, he went on to be interviewed by the special unit. Remember looking at his father tied up, when he tried to save him but failed miserably. As Joo Seok kept telling him not to come forward and that ‘it’s the water.’ But not understanding what his father was saying and taking one step forward. Jae Hwan ended upset his father in flames. Dying two weeks before his retirement.
As the interrogation began, he told them about the water. As it sprinkled on his father and got caught on fire. Getting everything checked from the location and confirming everything that Jae Hwan said is true. Gwang Soo was shocked himself. Eugene and Jae Hwan went back to the place to prove that Jae Hwan was right. Looking around she finds the quote ‘dies irae’ written just above the stage where Joo Seo was tied up. The meaning of the quote was ‘the day of wrath’ from the Bible’s last judgment. Explaining the meaning behind the saying she asks if Jae Hwan knows anything.
Worrying about him, she tells him to get some help as it looks he needs it. He tells her that Ju Seok was in charge of the ‘Chimera’ case. But never told him anything about it. Telling her that the past events have been driving him crazy. He’s angry about taking that step forward. While working on the case was making Eugene felt uneasy in her own house too. Making reports about the unsolved case of Chimera, she’s trying to find some connection.
Becoming a part of the Special Investigation Unit, Jae Hwan presents all the similarities the past and the present have. Presenting the special unit that all the explosion cases are the same as the ‘Chimera’ case. He shows them the lighter, the chimera graffiti, and other similar evidence from the crime scene. Showing them all the three explosions; Son Wan Ki, the killer’s hideout that he escaped and was meant for someone else, and officer Joo Seok. And how all of them are related to the 1984’s Chimera case. But Gwang Soo refuses to notice the connections, saying they need to focus on the present case. As the meeting becomes chaotic, Jae Hwan told them that they do have a suspect.
Giving the name of Dr. Lee Joong Yeop, Jae Hwan gave all the information he had about him to Gwang Soo. From his residential details to the working ones. But he failed to make him see the things his way. Telling him that the cases can’t be connected with the 35 years of time span, Gwang Soo told Jae Hwan to pull himself together. But as Joong Yeop is potted outside the building in Joo Seok’s car’s black box video. The team has some evidence to arrest the doctor and look for some more evidence.
The Chemistry Behind Detective Joo Seok’s Death: How Did The Water Caught Fire?
Eugene was the only one to believe Jae Hwan’s claim of the water catching fire. They got together to explain the whole chemical reaction to the special unit. Taking a look at the report, Jae Hwan tells them that the sample was corrupted because of the location being a constructed site. And the cause behind the explosion was the chemicals were magnesium mixed with oxygen. Mixing Magnesium with Silver Nitrate to stabilize them. And as soon as the water touches the chemical, the surface catches fire and ends up in an explosion. As the chemicals were used in medical supply and can only be extracted by a medical professional. Jae Hwan goes on to arrest Dr. Joong Yeop as the prime suspect.
Chimera Episode 5 Release Date and What To Expect?
Chimera Episode 5 will release on November 13, 2021 at 10.30 pm KST. With the arrest of Dr. Joong Yeop came out a few things to change the team’s perspective. With police chief, Bae Seung Gwan and the board of members of the Seoryeon group including themselves in the narrative. Jae Hwan has been kicked off the special investigation unit on the basis of him being impulsive and emotional. While the media is doing their own work as Reporter Hyo Kyung is looking deeper into the things about the connections. On the other side, Joong Yeop seems to be having a plan of his own, Jae Hwan might get hurt if he comes in his way.
His little meeting with the profiler Eugene seemed to move him. With him asking them in anger if they really are looking for the killer or his next victim. Eugene is not going to stop and will try to get things out of him. Even though he isn’t the killer, him being related to the case even on the ‘coincidental evidence’ might do the investigation team something helpful.
