The third season of Chihayafuru has been confirmed already and now the official website for show has revealed the release date of the show. The official website for Chihayafuru revealed that the third season will premiere in April. The show will air on NTV’s “AnichU” programming block. The show is being directed by Morio Asaka at Madhouse. The three main cast members of will also return:

The first 25 episodes of anime ran from October 2011 to March 2012. The second season of Chihayafuru premiered in January 2013 and it also ran for 25 episodes. Both the seasons were streamed by Cruncyroll as they aired in Japan.
Here is how the show is described—
Chihaya Ayase is a beautiful and headstrong young woman with a passion for karuta, a card game inspired by classical Japanese poetry. As a child, Chihaya was introduced to the game by a quiet, gifted transfer student named Arata, and she was instantly drawn to it. Now she is high school and she has been reunited with her childhood friend Taichi. Chihaya dreams of finding Arata and so that the three of them could go back to playing karuta together. They do find Arata but, they soon discover that Arata has quit the game due to personal reasons. Determined not to let Arata’s passion go to waste, Chihaya and Taichi form the Mizusawa High School Karuta Club, where they learn that in karuta – as in life – working toward your dreams is the key to winning, even when what you want seems just out of reach.
The manga was launched by Suetsugu Kodansha’s Be-Love magazine in December 2007. The 39th volume was published by Kodansha on August 9 and the 40th volume was published November 13. The manga is actually super popular as it has more than 21 million copies in print in Japan. The manga will also be released in English by Kodansha comics.
The manga has also inspired three live action movies. The first one, Chihayafuru: Kami no Ku(Chihayafuru: Upper Phrase), was released in Japan in March 2016. The second movie, Chihayafuru: Shimo no Ku (Chihayafuru: Lower Phrase), was released in April 2016, and the third and final one, Chihayafuru: Musubi, opened in Japan on March 17.
