Chapelwaite came to our screens quite silently in the August of 2021. Of course, the show was something to look at with its gothic storyline and captivating look of the 1800s. A Stephen King short story coming to life didn’t see an audience like Netflix’s Midnight Mass. The latter one saw quite an international appeal and came around the same time as Chapelwaite. But that didn’t mean Chapelwaite wasn’t good. The show did stand out for the audience it had released on Epix, and we wonder Chapelwaite would return for a Season 2 or not.
So coming to the same Jason Filardi and Peter Filardi’s Chapelwaite took us to quite a similar journey of Midnight Mass. Still, the Chapelwaite had its own story to tell that could’ve ended with humans off this planet. A Worm God could have entered the world through a book of the undead. It took a wise Boone to stop this massacre and make a sacrifice. But what if it didn’t stop there. Here we are taking a look at Chapelwaite, its story, if there will be Season 2, if yes, then its release date, cast, and everything you need to know.
Chapelwaite S01 Recap
Chapelwaite told the story of the Boone family that included Captain Charles Boone and his children. Grieving on the loss of their mother’s death, Boone’s cousin brother Stephen came in to tell them about a curse that has been looming on their family for ages. It dates back to 1780, and the family suffers from hereditary Vermiphobia. But it was all a plot to come to Chapelwaite and look for a cursed book called De Vermis Mysteriis. Stephen, in fact, was dead and came back as a Vampire and wanted to use the book of the undead.
It was a matter of time, and Charles found out what Stephen was actually here for. But by that time, a Vampire named Jakub had made his presence felt in the town. He wanted the same book too. Charles foresaw the havoc Jakub and his army would bring upon this world once the book was in his hands. Towards the end of the show, Charles recruited people from the town and led them into a final battle with Jakub and his vampire army, which was moments away from taking over the world.
A shadow was looming over the moon, and soon Charles and his people were surrounded by vampires. Some survived while some died, but Charles managed to sneak away and come face to face with Jakub. Loa turned on Jakub, and a simple distraction saw Charles stabbing him with a Holy Cross. Soon he took charge to slash Jakob’s head off his body. As this went on, Stephen tried to complete the ritual. But a ruthless Charles followed in to finish things with him as well.
With that, Jakub’s army was cleared off the earth. New sunlight dawned upon the town, signifying the end of the evil for now. This didn’t mean that no one is coming for the book again. This book of undead is something that is indestructible by any means necessary. There was a need for someone wise to take care of it. So far, every person who has wanted it was looking forward to their own means.
So this saw Charles ensuring everyone’s safety. After all, he saw the vision of what the world would look like if the book falls in the wrong hands. Therefore opening gate for the Worm God to enter and turn the earth ground of human flesh. But to keep the book to himself, Charles needed to be sacrifice being human to turn into a vampire to keep the book to himself. The episode closed with the family creating documents ensuring that Charles is dead. But only for the humans.
He was now a vampire, and to keep his family safe, he had to leave them to an unknown land. This was all for the world as well as the coming generation of his kids who will be relieved of the curse they have upon them. This sacrifice saw the kids and Rebecca all alone again now. The mess saw the kids losing their father as well after losing their mother around the same time.
Although, the entire source material of “Jerusalem’s Lot” wrapped up the first season of Chapelwaite. If the creators ever plan to push the boundaries, there are a number of things we would love to see happening in the show. For instance, the place Charles opted to go to and spend the rest of his life. We would love to see Charles’s life as a Vampire and, at the same time, how he managed to protect the book from the rest of the vampires around the world. Season 1’s end made it clear that even though Jakob and Stephen are dead, there are more vampires out there. Charles is just a new one among them who came to this world with a huge responsibility. Talking about the same, we would also tell us how he adjusted his life to being a vampire.
Then coming to Charles’s kids. How did they manage to survive and grow without their parents? Was Rebecca there for them? Also, if the show went through a time jump, we would love to see how grown-up Boones look for their father in an unknown land. With that, this may call in for other vampires to show up who might be part of this land. Also note, about the time jump, well, season 1 of Chapelwaite is set somewhere in the 1850s, and for season 2, we would love to see not more than 25-30 years’ time jump if it happens. We adore the era the show is set in and would like to see more from the same moving on if Chapelwaite Season 2 is happening,
After all, how long can Charles even keep this book a secret to himself? Much like Jakob and Stephen, there were many hungry vampires that wanted this power. So he is bound to face a journey of battles if he wants to keep going along the line. So even if Jakob and Stephen are gone, there may be stronger Vampires who might be willing to bring the vampire who Jakob referred to as Worm God into this new world. Also, in the first season, we were only this close to watching the world turn to the vision Charles saw. Only human flesh laying all around. So these are just our hopes for the plot if the creators are looking to push the source material and have a creative vision for Chapelwaite Season 2.
Chapelwaite Season 2 Cast
Well, since we really want to know where Charles would spend his days as Vampire. Then we are definitely looking forward to the return of Adrien Brody in the same shoes. Also, we would love to see what the other characters are up to while Charles is away. This may see Emily Hampshire returning as Rebecca Morgan. Also, the rest of the Boone family as well. So we may have the likes of Jennifer Ens returning as Honor Boone, joined by Sirena Gulamgaus as Loa Boone, and Ian Ho as Tane Boone.
Also in case, the show does opt to take a time jump which we would like to see, we may see a much older version of all these characters. We are expecting Adrien Brody and Emily Hampshire to continue adoring the same roles. For kids, though, we are expecting a grown-up version of theirs. This means a group of completely new faces would be preferred to pick up the roles of grown-up Honor, Loa, and Tan. That is all for the cast, though. Here is a look at what we know so far on Chapelwaite’s status for Season 2 renewal and its release date.
Chapelwaite Season 2 Release Date
Chapelwaite Season 2 may not be happening, and therefore there isn’t a release date. There is no official announcement for the same, and there are a few reasons we believe it is that way for now. It has nothing to do with low ratings, in fact, the show did pretty well. Nor it has anything to do with creators not wanting to go ahead. Here is how it goes, Chapelwaite takes inspiration from the short story “Jerusalem’s Lot” by Stephen King. So the creators kind of covered everything the short story had to tell and built what Chapelwaite is here today. The story is a wrap, and there isn’t more source material to continue it.
There are times creators go far and ahead to cross the boundaries of the source material. Sometimes they work and sometimes not so much. So far, the creators of Chapelwaite haven’t shown any particular interest in doing so. In fact, many of Stephen King’s recent adaptations have been kept to what the stories had to offer. Take it “The Outsider” or “The Stand” that have come ahead in the past few years. The only show to cross the boundaries of the source material of King is probably “Under The Dome”. But we can’t say the same for Chapelwaite Season 2. At this point, it doesn’t seem to be happening. Until then, you can stream Chapelwaite Season 1 on Epix’s official website.
