BTS visits President Moon Jae In to accept their Letters of Appointment
Back in July 2021, the Blue House – the office and residence of the President of South Korea announced that BTS would be appointed as the Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture. This appointment will take the boys to the UN Headquarters once again in September 2021 for the 76th United Nations General Assembly.
On September 14, 2021, BTS visited the Blue House to meet the President and receive their official letters of appointment. This is a matter of great pride not just for the country but also for the millions of BTS fans across the world. People who have been with BTS from the very beginning of their journey in 2013 are well aware of everything that the band has had to go through to scale these heights. The close relationship that BTS shares with its ARMY is a whole other topic that can be researched upon.
Coming back to the latest developments, BTS received diplomatic South Korean passports for their UN mission along with fountain pens from the President in an exclusive ceremony. BTS will now visit the UN headquarters in New York and attend the second meeting of the Sustainable Development Goals Moment of the Decade of Action. Their mission is all set to take place on September 20, 2021. BTS will not only deliver a speech but also perform for all dignitaries present there. In a statement, the Blue House said that BTS’ popularity and their attendance at the UNGA 2021 would help draw attention to several issues that concern our generation and help raise awareness.
BTS’ Past Association with the United Nations
BTS made its UNGA debut back in 2018. Back then, the group had delivered a powerful speech on the importance of loving oneself and accepting oneself with all shortcomings and flaws. This speech was delivered as a part of the band’s massive Love Myself campaign, where they teamed up with UNICEF to spread a message of love and hope worldwide. Back in 2020, BTS delivered another powerful speech that was video-recorded for UNGA 2020. This was done as a part 0f BTS’ renewal of their Love Myself campaign with UNICEF. However, their purpose of visiting the UN this year is completely different and certainly of greater value as they speak about the issues that most affect the youth of today.
What comes next for BTS?
Now that we have cleared the several diplomatic missions that BTS is involved in, here’s what awaits them on the work front. On September 24, BTS will be releasing their collaboration with Coldplay on the song ‘My Universe‘. It was being speculated of the longest time that the two bands have collaborated with netizens spotted Chris Martin in South Korea back in March-April.
