Ascendance of Bookworm also known as Honzuki no Gekokujo is a Japanese novel series that was later adapted into a light novel. It is created by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by Yu Shiina. The light novel was published by TO Books and an English version was given by J-Novel Club. It was released on 25th January 2015 and till now has released 27 volumes and more are in creation.
The series gained a lot of popularity after it was adapted into a manga series. Its manga was released in 3 Parts as all of them gained equal amounts of popularity. Part 1 was illustrated by Suzuka and was released on 30th October 2015 and till 2nd July 2018, it has given a collection of 7 tankobon volumes.
Later on 24th September 2018 Part 3 was released that is still ongoing and has given 6 tankobon volumes. Part 3 of the manga was released on 30th April 2018 and was illustrated by Ryo Namino. It is still continuing and has been collected into 4 tankobon volumes. But above all of them is the super popular anime adaption of Ascendance of a Bookworm. It was produced by Ajia-do Animation Works studio and was directed by Mitrusu Hongo. It was released on 3rd October 2019 and can be said as ongoing since Season 3 is going to be released soon.
Plot
The plot of the series is what makes it different from any other basic isekai anime series. Its storyline takes place in two phases, first in the real world and second when the protagonist gets reincarnated into the fantasy world. The center of the story is a young girl named Urano Motosu. She is a student and a post-secondary college student who loves to read books. Urano is soon to be a librarian and is going to start her dream job. However, things don’t go really well and its the time for the plot to take its pace for further progression. On a very unfortunate day, Urano dies as she gets crushed under a pile of books. The accident occurred due to an earthquake and while she died she wished to get reincarnated into a world full of books.
Things didn’t go well as she reincarnated and woke up in a very fragile body. She is now a five-year-old girl named Myne. Her wish to get born into a world was not accepted as she was born in a fantasy world where books are really scarce. The facility of the books is only availed to the elites. At first, Myne doesn’t have accounts of her previous life, but later she retained her memories. As she gained her memories, she didn’t get to read books as she is not an elite. So, she decided to create and print her own books so that she can pursue her passion for reading.
Previously on Ascendance of Bookworm
Season 1 of Ascendance of a Bookworm was released on 3rd October 2019 with its first episode “A world without Books”. Season 1 consisted of 14 episodes and its begins with the plot’s initial progression. As it is the beginning, it centers on the life of Urano as she dies and gets reincarnated into a world without many books.
By the end of the first season, with the help of her knowledge and powers, she convinced that temple to let her be a part of the elite society. The bishop turned very arrogant towards her and refused to temple to let Myne meet her demands. After some actions and a few events, she was granted what she wanted. Now she along with her family was allowed to be nobles and they enjoy every benefit of being one.
Season 2 of Ascendance of Bookworm was released on 5th April 2020 with its first episode “Apprentice Priestess”. In the previous season, we witnessed getting her the title of noble as she was accepted into the temple. Now her apprenticeship in the temple begins and she shared her experience of being noble to Benno. She was felicitated as a blue-robed priest and the High Priest introduced her to all the duties. With a moving plot, she gained a lot of power, and season 2 finally ended on 21st June 2020. It ended with 12 episodes and the final episode was titled “Dreamlike World”. The season ended with a furious battle as Ferdinand and Shikza get healed in the battle.
Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 3 Release Date
The series till now has remained very interesting and popular. There will be no doubt that the upcoming season 3 will provide the equal entertainment that we had till now. The confirmation regarding the Ascendance of Bookworm Season 3 was made back in January 2022.
Its official trailer was released on 21st January 2022 and made the fans overly excited. The trailer was narrated in Myne’s voice which is done y Yuka Iguchi. Some we characters were there in the trailer and the visuals were really good. Myne’s baby brother was also introduced in the trailer. However, at that time its release date was scheduled for April 2022.
Now as the time is reaching nearer, creators have recently announced the confirmed schedule for Ascendance of Bookworm Season 3. It is going to be a top-rated isekai anime series of Spring 2022. On 12th March 2022, another preview teaser for season 3 was released and it revealed its release date. The teaser was almost 2 minutes long a gave out a good amount of hints from the series. Almost all the major characters’ visuals were shown properly and we can already predict how good it is going to be. Cast
Now the most important aspect of an anime series is that gives the series its realness. The voice cast for the anime is not yet confirmed however, we can expect all the previous actors to play their respective roles. In the previous two seasons, Myne and Urano were played by Yuka Iguchi who is also known for her work on “Bakemonogatari”, “Fairy Tail” and others.

Other than them, we got to hear Tomoaki Maeno as Mark, Hiroshi Naka as Gustav, Aya Uchida as Freida.
