If you’re not familiar with Archive 81, it is a story that repeats itself several times. It centers around the life of Dan Turner, he’s an archivist hired to restore tapes from a disenfranchised building long ago. The more Dan Turner watches the tapes, the more he gets pulled into the investigation of a dark cult documentary that Melody Pendras shot a long time ago and becomes convinced that he can change the past. Now, without any further ado, let’s begin covering this topic here at Otakukart.
Archive 81 Season 1 Episode 2 Recap
Dan is spooked in the second episode of Archive 81, but he tries to remain calm as he recovers the tapes. The most recent encounter involves an ominous meeting with a medium named Beatriz. Beatriz tells Melody that the people who live here are strange and that she, too, has been hearing strange noises at night. She hears moaning in particular and attributes it to a late-night sex club located upstairs.
Beatriz, as a medium, can’t help but read Melody’s fortune by turning over three cards: past, present, and future. In the present, Beatriz correctly deduces that Melody is attempting to locate Julia Bennett, who has recently gone missing, and no one appears to have heard from her. Is this the card of the future? That, on the other hand, is an entirely different story. It reveals Death when you turn it over. Brilliant. Beatriz gives her an awkward smile and tells her that Death can mean many other things.
Melody arrives at Tamara’s opera that night, but the music harms her once again. She learns from Samuel – the guy who invited her to the opera in the first place – that there is a Visser Historical Society that meets at the apartment complex when she takes a break. Melody discovers her eccentric, boisterous friend Anabelle waiting inside the apartment. Naturally, the melody isn’t pleased to see her, and things get even worse when Samuel shows up to have that drink she promised earlier. Samuel decides to leave after sensing some negative energy.
Dan is beginning to lose control of the situation entirely. Melody was one of his father’s old patients, and he noticed a figure in a red jacket running through the woods. That night, a figure from the outside appears in front of Dan, revealing himself to be his father. Chasing him down the dark corridors of this strange house, it becomes clear that everything is a dream. Yes, of course! However, it demonstrates how the line between past and present is beginning to blur.
Melody, who has been filming the entire time, struggles to keep her composure as the group departs for the night. We also discover that this sex club has some merit, as Samuel and Tamara hook up and moan loudly while getting it on. But, unfortunately, it appears that ‘Hot Guy’ isn’t quite what he seems to be. Melody reveals to Annabelle where she’s been and why she’s at Visser Apartment when she returns to her apartment, shaking and visibly spooked. Julia Bennett turns out to be her biological mother, and she’s come to find her. Of course, she’s photographing the structure, but her primary motivation stems from her birth mother.
Returning to Dan, he rides out to meet Mark, digging. Dan’s sister, it turns out, wrote the song we’ve been listening to. Not only that, but LMG is only the beginning. As Mark rattles off several different subsidiaries, this company has a shady past. Mark takes a breather before dropping the final bombshell. Melody is still alive and kicking. She’s in Pittsburgh and might know something about what’s going on.
