Previous Owner of Gomu Gomu No Mi Explained in One Piece

Devil Fruits, the mysterious fruits that provide one strength or weakness depending on the kind of fruit it is. To be precise, the fruit grants the users an inhumane ability in return of the eater’s ability to swim. The powers granted by the Devil fruits are various, from immense strength to abilities, the strength of the Devil fruit varies.

As per Oda’s recent interviews, he said a certain professor will explain the complex mechanisms behind all of the Devil Fruits shown in the series. As of now, we aren’t aware of all the types of Devil Fruits that are available in the One Piece world.

The Gomu Gomu no Mi is one of the most common types of Devil fruits in the series. This Devil Fruit allows the user’s body to act as a rubber. This is the Devil fruit eaten by Luffy at the beginning of the series. The fruit was introduced to us in the first episode of One Piece.

The previous user of this devil fruit most probably was Ace’s mother, Portgas D. Rouge. The reason why I said so is the nature of Ace’s birth. The average birth time takes nine months but Ace’s birth was more than 20 months mark, no other woman could withstand it, except the one with special powers. So she most probably had the devil fruit, Gomu Gomu no Mi Ae in possession, allowing her to bear her child for more than 9 months. As, when Ace was born he was already 11 months old and his weight was more than 20 pounds.
