Sword Art Online is coming back in this next month. The first two seasons of the show were pretty good. The wait for the third season has been very long. The second season finished airing on December 20, 2014. So as you can see, we have waited for almost four years to see the third season of the series. The third season of Sword Art Online will cover the Alicization arc of the light novel series.

The third season will premiere on October 7, 2018. Some of the fans had the opportunity to watch episode 1 in September before the series actually returned. It was a part of an exclusive premiere screening event. This event took place in Japan, Australia, the United States, Australia, France, Russia, Germany, and South Korea. The fans were flocking to see if they were lucky enough to see it.

The arc spans from Volume 9 to Volume 18. It has got a good chunk of content which could be turned into anime. The arc will be set in the year 2026, in which Kirito and two of his friends, Eugeo and Alice, went on an adventure. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, all of them ended up in the Underworld. After their journey being rerouted, they now face the challenge of bringing Alice home.

A lot of people had been speculating that the third season of the show would be it’s longest ever till date. It was presumed that the third season would cover the entirety of the Alicization Arc. So, it seemed that we would get 40+ episodes for the third season. However, it hasn’t been confirmed yet. But, a lot of staff members have also hinted that the third season of Sword Art Online will cover the whole arc.

It does make sense when you actually think about it as the show has been gone missing for a good four years now. It would be very strange on the part of the staff if they just made 10-12 episodes. However, if they decide to do such a thing, then we can expect the fourth season to come out in 2019.
