Takeshi Konomi is a very well known name in the world of manga. During this year’s Jump Festa it was revealed that Konomi’s The Prince of Tennis and The New Prince of Tennis manga are inspiring a new anime movie. The film is titled, Ryōma! Shinsei Gekijōban Tennis no Ōji-sama (Ryōma! Rebirth Movie The Prince of Tennis). The movie will open in Japan in early 2020.
It has been confirmed that the movie will an original story which will take place between the three-month time period between the events at the end of The Prince of Tennis manga and the start of The New Prince of Tennis manga.
The Prince of Tennis manga was serialized on Shuiesha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1999 to 2008. The manga follows a middle school tennis player named Ryōma Echizen. Throughout the manga, we see Ryōma battling his rivals in order to reach the national tournament. The original manga got its television anime which ran from 2001-2005. It also got two anime films and a live-action film. The series has also received a stage musical series.
Konomi launched The New Prince of Tennis manga in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine in 2009. The story focuses on the events after the national tournament when Ryoma joins a group of middle school players at Japan’s top training camp for players under 17. The 24th volume of the manga was published by Shueisha on September 4 and the 25th volume will be published on January 4.
This ongoing sequel manga received m its own 2012 anime which was titled, The Prince of Tennis II. The Prince of Tennis II OVA vs. Genius 10 series then ran for five volumes.
