Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro is a manga series written and illustrated by Nanashi. It first began serialization on a web portal called Magazine Pocket, an online fiction platform published by Kodansha, the famous manga publishing giant. Kodansha is the name behind big names like Attack on Titan, among many others. It was also released in print in its first volume by Kodansha in its Shonen Magazine Comics in 2018. It was licensed by Vertical in the English language in America and made available in 2019. An anime series, too, has been announced for the series. It is being produced by Telecon Animation Films and will start airing in April this year.
Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagataro revolves around Nagataro and Naoto. Naoto is a shy and introverted student who Nagataro teases around. She assumes he will become more confident if faced with verbal abuse. Oddly enough, his confidence slowly increases as he hangs out with Nagataro and her friends.
The anime has already received a lot of attention. It has received both negative and positive attention as fans are looking forward to watching it, while some people are making efforts to cancel the show because of its sensitive themes and representation of characters. In any case, the show is certainly popular and will be releasing in April 2021 regardless.
Until then, here are some animes similar to Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagataro, which you can watch and enjoy all the same.
1. Uzaki Chan Wants To Hang Out
Anime doesn’t seem to have any shortage of introverted guys being annoyed but incredibly good-looking females simply because they’re introverted. Uzaki Chan Wants To Hang Out basically has the exact same theme and story. Uzaki is a high school student who starts noticing her upper-class man Shiinchi, a shy student. In attempts to annoy him and hopefully open him up, she starts hanging out with him, often without Shinchi wanting no part in it whatsoever. The anime is humorous and toys around with echi themes quite a few times. Like, Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagataro, was also subjected to calls of cancellation because of the character design of Uzaki Chan, the titular character. Regardless, it aired just fine and was watched and enjoyed by many fans.
2. Dagashi Kashi
A story all about sweets and a sweet shop called Shikada Dagashi. The family of Yo Shikada has run the candy shop for almost a decade. The ownership and handling of the shop run in their very bloodline. All until Kokonotsu, Yo’s son, refuses to take up the mantle of a store owner. He’d prefer to be a manga artist instead. Yo comes up with the clever trick to enlist Hotaru, a young girl, to convince Kokonotsu to take up the task instead. The show follows similar themes with Hotaru trying to make Kokonostu take ownership with him wanting absolutely no part in it.

This one goes a little different from the others when it comes to the story. It features two high schoolers Taiga and Ryuuji. They meet only because of their individual crushes on each other’s best friends. The two make a pact to help each other out to get going with their crushes, but the journey takes them to an unexpected place. As they hang out more and more, Taiga and Ryuuji fall for each other instead. The tension and comedy until the confession are really worth watching and precisely what makes the anime worth watching.
4. Monogatari Series
The Monogatari series follows a semi-harem-like story. However, the main characters and love interests of the story are Koyomi and Hitagi. Koyomi is a boy who got turned into a vampire but was able to turn back to a human. He now helps girls with such oddities to get back to normal. The first person he encounters is Hitagi, who seemed to have lost all her weight because of some supernatural phenomenon. Ever since then, even after meeting countless girls, Hitagi is the one he considers his partner. The slice of life element in this otherwise fantasy anime is really great and worth watching.
5. Teasing Master Takagi-San
And finally, another anime just like Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagataro. As you can already note in the title, Teasing Master Takagi-San focuses on the same theme. The introverted guy Nishikata is blissfully unaware that his childhood friend Takagi is in love with him. However, she keeps on annoying him with playful pranks and so on. The different elements in this anime are that the two characters have known each other for a long time, unlike the others where the main characters are basically strangers who have just met.
