Animal Kingdom Season 5 Episode 8 suggests that trouble is walking towards Deran, J, and Craig unless they take desperate measures. It seems like the past deeds never go away unless you pay for them. Pope is a prime example of that who for the past few episodes is looking for peace. Now, something similar may strike in for our trio. Talking about Pope, the guy is on one kind of a journey that led him to commune which was everything he wanted. But the past didn’t let him have it when a guy there sensed Pope’s darkness.
This led Pope to leave the commune with a woman. While he wanted to die at the same time, the woman consoled him and offered help. For the very first time in a while, it seemed like Pope received the help he was looking for. Not all but at least some of it. A similar crisis and fallouts have been going on with others. Craig and Ren find it difficult to be on the same page while Deran is running out of business. Why? because everyone knows about his past and that past is finally making its first strike.

Previously on Animal Kingdom, Pope’s struggle continues to find a place that can give him the peace he is looking for. After abandoning the commune, the woman he left with took a gun and shot all the places she could. Pope was hoping she could shoot him too. All he wanted was to die at this point but instead, the woman invited him to her house.

As they hung out in the pool, Pope started reminiscing about the old times. The woman later joined him and tried to get too close to him. When she tried kissing, Pope decided to back out stating he doesn’t deserve all of this. He needs to earn it after all the past he had. What followed in was Pope confessing what the man at commune told him about his darkness.

Craig and his girlfriend Renn both wanted a job. But when Craig got it he refused to let Ren in. This led her to go back to her old ways of trying to deal with drugs. But even that business didn’t accept her and she opted to steal drugs. On the other side, Craig celebrated his victory of winning the house back by throwing a party.

Lastly, we also witnessed the fall of Deran and his bar business. To the point, he had to steal drinks for his own bar. He tried to figure out why anyone doesn’t want to work with him. Talking to friends he realized everyone believes he is a killer. So no one wants to drink at a bar owned by a murderer. The episode closed with Pope’s new woman friend revealing her past of losing a custody battle to her rich ex-husband. Lastly, the DEA is now looking to get information on Deran.
