Altered Carbon made a huge mark in the world of TV shows with its first season. Netflix shortly announced that Altered Carbon would be getting a second season. The announcement took place on the show’s official Twitter account.

The second season will have a total of eight episodes, which is two less than the first season. There has been no response from the showrunners regarding this decision. Also, there is no news about the release date of the second season so far. The production of the first season of the show began in 2016 and the first season was released earlier this year.
It is possible that we might get the second season in late 2019 or early 2020. The rumors say the same that the second season will be released in late 2019. There are changes to the cast as well. Joel Konnamam is going to be replaced by Anthony Mackie. So, in season two we will see Anthony Mackie as Takeshi Kovacs. Joel has not been replaced because of his acting but, because of the story in the novels. The show is following the novels by Richard K. Morgan, in which the main character keeps on traveling for hundreds of years and change a lot of different bodies.
In an interview, Joel Kinnaman hinted that he might not return for a second season. He said, “We have no idea what the second season would be, but my guess is… it’s sort of going to be an anthology show where maybe a couple of the characters continue into the next season.”

There is a total of three books in the series: Altered Carbon, Broken Angels, and Woken Furies. It is speculated that the second season would be the adaptation of Broken Angels. Broken Angels is set 30 years after the events of Altered Carbon and Kovacs is working for a corporate mercenary organization.
