If you’re into cars, you probably like Fast and Furious movies. In consequence, that’s why you’re reading to find out the rankings for all Fast and Furious movies. And we tried to rank them from best to worst. And while this is a totally arbitrary ranking because, after all, you alone, dear reader, are the definite judge as to which Fast and Furious movie is the best. We decided to bring you what we think is the best order.
Since its beginnings in the early 2000s with a young and aspiring Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, the franchise spiraled out of control into a constant tale of adventures, each more daring than its predecessor. Additionally, the cast has expanded, managing to include action superstars like Jason Statham (from Transporter, and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels) and Dwayne Johnson (Ballers). Still, the movies continue to gather a large fan base. Now, let’s take a look at our ranking.
9. The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift
For us, this one is right at the bottom because, for lack of a better word, it downright sucks. And don’t take it personally. Ask any F&F fan, and they’ll tell you the same. Firstly, it has nothing to do with the cast of the Fast and Furious, save for the link to Han (played by Sung Kang), and that’s just it. It goes about a teen kid named Lucas Black, played by Sean Boswell, who ends up in Japan after jumping from one school to the other because he’s always running around in a sports car.
For the first time in his life, he is sent to Tokyo by his mother after he suffers a serious injury. Despite his best efforts, his inexperience with ‘Drift’ hinders his entry into the Tokyo racing scene. In order to prepare for his upcoming showdown with the current Drift King, Han lends a hand to another underdog. In addition to defeating the current Drift King, he inherits his uncle’s drug-smuggling ring. Check out the trailer below:
8. Fate of the Furious
In spite of being the eighth part, this one came quite close to being the worst part of the whole series. Set with the apparent winning formula of the franchise, it had everything you can expect from a Fast and Furious movie. It had Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, The Rock (he’s regular now), along with unnecessarily badass characters like Jason Statham and Charlize Theron.
We also had Ludacris and Tyrese for comic relief —Nothing like Tego Calderon and Don Omar from F5. But that’s it as far as the plot goes. Out of nowhere, a formidable enemy rises up and forces Dom to go against his family and everything he believes in. The audience is made to think he will continue that way for some time, only to shatter those dreams in the end. Dom rejoins his family and takes down the same enemy using his all-so-old-school moves. A very predictable and desperate addition to the franchise. Check out the trailer.
7. 2 Fast 2 Furious
This problematic movie is that it was just made to create the character played by Tyrese Gibson, Roman. If you wanted to give Roman a better story, you would’ve introduced his story arc in a clever way. Not an entirely boring feature film. Anyway, it stars Paul Walker reprising his role as Brian as he meets Roman, the ex-convict, as he teams up with him to catch a mob dude whose girl is eye candy Eva Mendes in sunny Miami. The movie is fast-paced. So much that it often leaves you wondering if the dialogue between the action sequences is just there for fill-up.
6. Fast and Furious
In this one, Dom Toretto is out for revenge after Letty dies in an operation that went awry. So out of blood, Toretto finds two men. The first one is a dude by the name of David Park. The second one is a man called Arturo Braga, a Mexican drug dealer. So, for Dom’s blood and Brian’s justice, they travel to Mexico to take out Braga and shut down his drug smuggling operation. In the end, despite Brain’s pleas, Dom hands himself over to the police. His decision to stay and face the consequences of his actions has convinced him to do so this time around. Check out the trailer.
5. Fast & Furious 6
After a $100 million bank robbery in the fifth installment, the entire team is enjoying their spoils of war around the world. Shaw, a formidable international terrorist, is being sought by Hobbs, the FBI agent who pursued them futilely in the previous installment. In order to apprehend this thief, Dom and Brian track down the rest of the team and bring them together. Despite this, they discover that Shaw and Letty have teamed up. When two ex-lovers rekindle their romance, what will happen? The maturity of this franchise can be seen in this film, which is near the top of the list. All the good things about this series can be found in this film’s logical setting, which is followed by the right amount of action and thrill.
4. Furious 7
You’ll see Shaw’s big bad brother whiplash through the ranks of the Furious team in order to retaliate against him in this section. Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), Shaw’s older brother, arrives after the team has captured Shaw and turned him over to the police. He is even more dangerous and resourceful than his younger sibling. He kills Han and then tells Dom that he intends to take them down. Dom and Brian must look for God’s Eye in order to locate him and prevent any further harm from coming to them. Due to Paul Walker’s untimely death in 2013, this was Paul Walker’s final appearance as Brian in a film. Half of the reason to watch this movie is the beautiful farewell he receives at the film’s conclusion. Check out the trailer below.
3. Fast 5
Fast Five is one of my favorites. Firstly, the comedic relief provided by Tego Calderon and Don Omar is simply great. Secondly, it picks up the story of Dom and his crew from the fourth film. You see, Toretto broke out of prison, and Luke Hobbs, played by The Rock, is out to get him in Brazil. Faced with the opportunity to make some cash off of some drug dealers, the Furious team pulls one hell of a heist pulling a giant safe box all over the streets of Rio de Janeiro.
2. F9
In this movie, Dominic Toretto and his family must stop Charlize Theron’s character Cipher and Dom’s long-lost brother Jakob Toretto played by John Cena. Firstly, F9 is full of surprises as it turns out that Han is actually alive, Mia Toretto (played by Jordana Brewster) is back, and Jason Statham is playing once again Deckard Shaw. Also, the filmmakers managed to scoop up Jason Tobin and Shad Moss from Tokyo Drift to give them a role here. It seems that, after all, Tokyo Drift isn’t left bereft of the plotlines, and it picks things up from there, not just Han. Check out the trailer.
1. The Fast and The Furious
It makes no sense to make a ranking of the Fast and Furious and put the gold medal on any other movie than the first one. Many will disagree. But this movie marked the way for the rest. In consequence, if we didn’t have The Fast and The Furious, we wouldn’t even have Tokyo Drift —with its boring plotlines—, 2 Fast 2 Furious —whose only two moments are Ludacris saying that he’s a little late on his taxes and Eva Mendes as eye candy—, and the rest of these movies that entertain us.
Brian is sent to Dominic Toretto’s carjacking gang as an infiltrator. Brian has to gain their trust by participating in the illegal car racing that takes place in their area, which is where they believe they are attacking trucks carrying electronic components. Isn’t that the case? Not really. In the course of getting to know Dom and his sister, Brian realizes that they may not be the ones to blame for what happened. Finally, he lets Dom go, which sets off the chain of events that will eventually lead to future installments of the series. With this, we conclude our coverage of this topic here at Otakukart.
