William Hurt kick-started his acting career on stage back during the 1970s. Later, he landed his big-screen breakthrough as an obsessed scientist in the Altered States. It was a good year for the actor as he went on to star as a philandering lawyer in the erotic thriller flick Body Heat. He was later cast in The Big Chill and Gorky Park.

Modine remembered Hurt as a consummate professional who was continually searching for greater truth and human understanding. Here’s what Russell Crowe writes about William Hurt. Have a look.
William Hurt has passed. On Robin Hood, I was aware of his reputation for asking character based questions, so I had compiled a file on the life of William Marshall. He sought me out when he arrived on set. I handed him the stack. Not sure if I’ve ever seen a bigger smile. RIP.

The actor won the best actor Oscar in 1986 for his role as a prisoner in Kiss of the Spider Woman. Hurt later admitted in an interview that winning an Oscar for playing a gay man who was sharing a cell with a political prisoner in Kiss of the Spider Woman was very isolating. He went in to bag not one but two nominations in the next two years. These were for Children of a Lesser God and Broadcast News. Fans also saw him as General Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross as he became a part of five Marvel hits.
The actor also bagged two Emmy nominations for playing the role of the Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson in the 2011 film Too Big to Fail and earned another motivation for television drama Damages. Later in 2018, the actor revealed that he had been diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. Reportedly, Hurt had struggled with alcohol issues for a while.
