A Couple Of Cuckoos, a series written and illustrated by Miki Yoshikawa. The series is finally getting an anime adaptation. The manga itself was greatly popular in its first volume run. It was reported that it sold out completely in all the stores, much to the surprise of its author and publisher. Of course, the publisher of the manga is Kodansha, who first published a one-shot by the author in the year 2019.
Following the good reception of the one-shot, Miki decided to go on ahead with the entire manga, and it soon got serialized after readers voted on it for serialization. With the readers’ attention in her grasp, Miki started serializing the manga in the Weekly Shonen Magazine itself from January 2020. Since then, the series has received an admirable response, though it has somewhat lessened after the first few volumes. However, it is still popular enough to be adapted into an anime. To hype up the series even more, a promotional video was used.

A Couple Of Cuckoos is a slice of life and romance series. It can be compared to other stories like My Love Story or the Quintessential Quintuplets if we remove the semi-harem aspect of that particular show. In any case, A Couple Of Cuckoos would be a great addition to next year’s anime roster. The year 2022 might be the year of romance, harem, and ecchi genre with many names up and coming. A Couple Of Cuckoos is just one of those few. Do other names include the second season of Rent A Girlfriend and Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? Season 4.
A Couple Of Cuckoos follows an interesting plot. Nagi Umino is an outstanding student at Megurogawa Academy. In fact, he’s so good he ranks second in his entire grade. Bested by only his classmate Hiro. It is revealed that Nagi has a crush on Hiro and soon plans to confess it to her. However, his oath to himself is that he’ll only confess it once he surpasses her and becomes the best ranker in his grade. But Nagi does not know that his life is just about to be turned upside down entirely.
He soon finds out that the family that raised him isn’t really his own. It turns out that he’s actually the biological child of a major hotel tycoon. Awed by the realization, Nagi heads off to meet with his birth parents. Maybe he’ll get to live a better life. Maybe, his biological parents won’t even recognize him. In any case, he was determined to go and find out for himself.
Things soon go out of hand as he crosses paths with Erika Amano. Erika is a popular internet celebrity, but she is a troubled one as her family is trying to force her into an arranged marriage. Nagi accidentally meets her in a park where she asks him to pretend to be her boyfriend to escape the arranged marriage sham briefly.
It turns out that Erika is the biological daughter of the family that raised Nagi. It looked like their parents had switched them as infants and ended up raising the wrong one. Erika’s parents decide that she will be married to Nagi instead. They are made to live in a house together given to them by Erika’s parents. However, obviously, things are no better for her since she’s still being forced into an arranged marriage, and Nagi already has a crush on someone else. She tries to find someone through the internet for personal reasons while Nagi wonders how he got tangled in this mess.
