Youjo Senki or The Saga of Tanya the Evil is reincarnation done right. With so many reincarnation-based manga around, this manga takes a step away from the average plot and takes us through a historic journey filled with wars and action. In her previous life, Tanya was a man who fought numerous battles and proved his worth on the battlefield. His strength was so enormous that it threatened even the gods who then caused him to die and get reincarnated as a little girl. But this won’t stop Tanya, despite all odds she’s determined to become the strongest general the world has ever seen.

Youjo Senki Chapter 63 “The Southern Campaign III”: Recap

It’s 29 August 1926, Twenty days before the southern continent expeditionary army led by Major General Romel began its advances. A joint session of all the commanders, service staff and operation staff is underway and many strong generals including Deputy Chief of service, Lieutenant General Zettour and Deputy chief of operations Lieutenant General Rudersdof are present for the session.

The motive of this session is to find ways to end the François Republic Mainland campaign and the Legadonia Entente alliance campaign as well as discuss the strategy against the allied kingdom of Albion.

Zettour presents the documents regarding the northern campaign to the other officers present in the meeting. Zettour confirms that this issue has been resolved and the campaign is no more and so they move forward.

Zettour then stands up to present a proposal and presents a plan of action against the kingdom of Albion and the François Republic mainland alliance campaign.

Zettour faces many oppositions in his plan but he counters each of them with concrete measures. While answering everyone, Zettour is constantly reminded of Degurechaff and how she would’ve acted in this situation as she only needed one chance to prove her worth.

The focus then shifts from the meeting to Major Tanya von Degurechaff reporting for duty to the southern continent expeditionary commanding general, Major General Romel. He looks at Tanya and laughs at the fact that she’s an actual child and jokingly asks her if she’s eating well.

Romel and Tanya then discuss the corp’s centrepiece and its armoured division when Romel realizes that Tanya is rather easy to talk to while Tanya thinks that Romel is just too easy to read. Romel thinks of how Degurechaff’s evaluations were refused western command and believes that it’s because they sensed competency from her.

Romel asks Tanya if she needs anything to which Tanya asks him to grant independent authority to her unit. Romel asks her if she’s a mad dog but she argues that this notion has been approved by the staff and General Zettour. Romel rephrases the question and asks if her unit will bring the appropriate results but Tanya stays silent.

Romel asks her again but Tanya says that she can’t answer a question because she’s not sure of herself. She says that she’s a soldier and not a blowhard who would just give some fancy answers. Romel says that as the general, he wishes to avoid defeat at any cost and show the Albion empire and François rebellion what happens when someone tries to go against them.

Tanya realizes that Romel doesn’t want to give her independent action authority and that’s the reason he’s stalling and so she takes the initiative and says that even if the empire gets defeated in this great war, they will always be remembered throughout history as the empire who stood fearlessly against invading nations and died with honour.

Romel laughs at such great words and grants the independence Tanya wanted and tells her to not betray his expectations. A Major with Frontline syndrome and a Mad Dog commanding general, the two will be together on the southern continent till the bitter end!
