Curious to know who Jon Jones Is? What are the controversies that surround the professional? Jones is again in the limelight and is currently making headlines for his return to UFC and win against Cirly Gane. The professional Mixed Martial Art Artist and the current UFC Heavyweight Champion has found himself surrounded by controversy yet again.

Jon Jones is the stage name used by the UFC Champion Jonathan Dwight Jones. Jon was born on July 19, 1987, to Arthur, a pastor, and Camille, a nurse. Jon was born and brought up in Rochester, New York. Jon lost his mother in 2017 from her long-due illness of diabetes. Jon finished his schooling at Union-Edicott High School and graduated from Iowa Central Community College.

Jone’s father was always against him making a career in MMA and UFC fights. His father wished him to make a career as a pastor and preach. Jon has broken several records in his career, including becoming the youngest champion in UFC history with his victory title over Mauricio Rua at 23.

Josh got his nickname bones from his high school football coach for his physique. In his career span, Jon has lost his title three times in total for getting into several controversies. Jon recently trains at Jackson’s MMA in New Mexico. 3

Jones debuted in UFC against Andre Gusmao at UFC 87 on August 9, 2008. Jones was first suspended, on April 28, for getting into the controversy of hit and run case in which he hit a pregnant woman and then fled the scene.

In his career span, he has a total of twenty-nine matches, out of which he won twenty-seven and lost in one of the matches. The only time Jones was defeated in his career span was when he got disqualified against Matt Hamill. Jones met the love of his life Jessie, during high school, and they have been dating ever since.

They have been in love for twenty years and share four daughters. They broke up for a period of two months but reconciled, and Jessie was seen in the cage cheering for Jones during his latest fight. Jones has a net worth of $5M as of 2023.

Jon Jone’s Recent Controversy

Jon came into the limelight again because of his recent controversy in September 2021, where he head-butted a cop car. The recently surfaced video showed Jones in an altercation with the police officers, where he seemingly gets angrier by the moment. He stated, “Can’t A Black Guy Get Drunk” Jones also talked about his match that was to take place on the same day at the Hall Of Fame.

This isn’t the first time Jones has been in controversy. His whole career is full of ups and downs surrounding different controversies. This particular incident occurred in Las Vegas after Jones was detained by two police officers on suspicion of him abusing his then-girlfriend, Jessie Moose.

He later uploaded a picture with Jessie to prove the allegations were false. He is also getting into the controversy surrounding his return to MMA. His fight with Alexander Volkanovski, where people are speculating about his win.

1. Poking In The Eye

Jones’s first controversy was his poking the eyes of his opponents during his fights. He received immense backlash from his fans when he mocked his fans with an Instagram post where he used a crying filter with the caption Jones poked me in the eyes.

Jones later, in an interview, clarified his poking the eyes of his opponent isn’t deliberate. It’s just how his body reacts during the UFC fights.

2. Daniel Cormier Altercation 

Another controversy Jones fell into was during a promotional event for UFC 178 on August 4, 2014, where he got into an altercation with one of his co-fighters, Daniel Cormier.

The scuffle is started by Jones after he puts his head against Daniel, who pushes him hard in retaliation. Jones was asked to pay a fine of $50,000 along with doing forty hours of community service. 

3. Hit-and-Run Case

In Albuquerque on April 27, 2015, Jones was accused in a hit-and-run case where he got accused of hitting two other cars after he skipped a red light. Jones fled the scene leaving behind an injured pregnant woman. Jones did plead guilty on September 29, 2015, and apologized to his fans for his wrongdoings.

4. Hit-and-Run Case

Jones was arrested for drinking and driving in 2020 in New Mexico. A police officer stated he heard a gunshot and followed the sound. The sound led him to Jones, and after investigation, he was found guilty. He got sentenced to four days of house arrest.

 5. Battery Charge On Jones

Jones was also charged with battery on May 19, 2019, after a cocktail waitress accused him of putting her in a chokehold and sexually assaulting her in New Mexico. Jones didn’t contest the accusations.

Jone’s History With Failed Drug Test

Jones failed his drug test before UFC 182, UFC 200, AND UFC 214. He passed his drug test before UFC 232 on October 28, 2018, and was allowed to return to the ring. He no longer takes any illegal substances and has been clean. He has been making a name for himself and has earned a name for himself in the industry.
