His parents’ names are Elizabeth and Floyd Brooks. He began his career in 1965 through Def Comedy Jam. Smoove was also a writer and performer on NBC’s Saturday Night Live from 2003 to 2006. J.B. Smoove is popular for his role on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm from 2007. 

He also starred in the CBS sitcom The Millers from 2013 to 2015. J.B. also portrayed a fictionalized version of himself on the BET Improv on Real Husbands of Hollywood from 2013 to 2016. J.B. Smoove though born in Plymouth, but from the age of three, he was brought up in Mount Vernon, New York. Smoove got his comedy styles and timing from his extended maternal family who lives in Plymouth as he used to spend more time with them. He was raised in Levister Towers Housing Projects along with his two younger brothers in Mount Vernon. 

Smoove’s father died due to diabetes when he was just 15 years old. J.B. graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1983. He then attended Norfolk State University, which is located in Virginia, for further studies in engineering and graphic design.

He even worked as a perfume formulator, and he used to sell fire extinguishers by going door-to-door. He has been currently seen in Curb Your Enthusiasm. Curb Your Enthusiasm is an American comedy TV show released in 2000. Now ten seasons have been released. The show revolves around Larry David.

J.B. Smoove is known to many for his role as Leon Black in Curb Your Enthusiasm which is based on Larry David. He has a net worth of over $5 Million. Before starting his career in stand-up comedy and before taking up comedy roles, he said in an interview, “Selling door-to-door fire extinguishers… In bars, I used to repair those machines with ten different buttons to spray club soda and seltzer.” But he was more comfortable telling jokes. J.B. Smoove had recurring roles in Everybody Hates Chris and Saturday Night Live.

He worked as a writer on Saturday Night Live. He received the Writers Guild Of America Award in 2007 for best comedy/ variety series. He also featured in major roles for seasons 2 and 3 of the FOX sitcom ‘Til Death. J.B. also hosted the standup comedy series called Russell Simmons Presents: Stand-Up at The El Rey in July 2010 on Comedy Central. In February 2011, he even appeared in one of the episodes of The Simpsons. The episode was titled Angry Dad: The Movie.

In 2012 he was featured in his first television special program JB Smoove: That’s How I Dooz It, which was released on Comedy Central. It was even released on DVD on 3 April 2012. He voiced Hackus for the movie The Smurfs 2 in 2013. Smoove was also seen in the movie Movie 43. J.B. hosts a talk show on the MSG Network titled Four Courses with J.B. Smoove. J.B. gives his voice to Dr. Ray De Angelo Harris, who is the host of the Chakra Attack radio show in the video game Grand Theft Auto V.

Personal Life Details Of J.B. Smoove

J.B. Smoove got married to Shahidah Omar in 2007. The couple is now living together in Los Angeles. J.B. has a daughter from his previous relationship. When he started his career in stand-up comedy, he shortened his name to J.B. and added Smoove to his last name. Smoove is a fan of the New York Knicks, the New York Yankees, and the New York Jets.     

In 2022 he was seen in the movie Back on the Strip. His other works include Spider-Man: No Way Home, On the Count Of Three, The Jesus Rolls, Uncle Drew, Law, and Order, Ed, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Everybody Hates Chris, Carpoolers, The Gong Show With Dave Attell, The Wanda Skyes Show, and Glenn Martin DDS.
