The German crime series, Der Masuren-Krimi is back with two new episodes after almost two years. Claudia Eisinger in the role of Dr. Viktoria Wex is all set to solve yet another murder mystery. Der Masuren-Krimi premiered its first two episodes on May 20, 2021, and May 27, 2021, respectively with Northern Poland as its backdrop.

We are well aware of the fact that the German series has gained a good amount of popularity all around the world since last decade. The series of the country focuses more on the artist and their acting skills. Their gripping and dark storyline, production design, in-depth character design, and consistent ability to deliver a good quality narrative throughout a series, have sky-rocketed their international and domestic viewership as a result, affecting the international markets as well.

When talking about gripping and dark storylines, Der Masurem-Krimi is a good example of this aspect. The German series, Der Masuren-Krimi, is produced by ARD and is the creation of Ulli Stephan and Nadline Schweigardt. The series is directed by Anno Saul (episodes 1 and 2, 2021) and Sven Taddicken (episodes 3 and 4, 2023). It features some talented actors, which include Sebastian Hulk as Leon Pawlak, Claudia Eisinger as Dr. Viktoria Wex, and Karolina Lodyga as Zofia Kowalska.

The Premise of Der Masuren-Krimi

Der Masuren-Krimi is an adaption of a German crime novel, “Masurian Crime Novels.” The story of the series, Der Masuren-Krimi revolves around the perfectionist forensic scientist, Dr. Viktoria Wex, and her ways of solving different crimes which usually include homicide. She is accompanied by Zofia Kowalska, who is the Commissioner, and Leon Pawlak, who is a policeman of a village. Viktoria brings the other two masterminds together to form her own investigation team.

Initially, Viktoria Wex arrives at Pasym in Masuria, from Berlin. She unintentionally and surprisingly becomes a part of a murder investigation. She meets Zofia Kowalska, the detective on the case, during the investigation. However, the two ladies have quite a lot of arguments when their ideologies and way of thinking do not coincide. On the other side, Leon Pawlak assists Viktoria in the investigation.

Der Masuren-Krimi episode 3, titled ‘Marzanna, Göttin des Todes’ (Marzanna, Goddess of Death), which was released on March 16, 2023, dealt with the murder investigation of a psychiatrist in Pasym.

In the episode, a 15-year-old half-orphan, Lucja (portrayed by Irene Bohm) informs Leon Pawlak, the village police officer, about her therapist, Dr. Jolanta Wieczorek (portrayed by Malgorzata Klara) imminent death, of which she dreamt of. Hearing Lucja’s ridiculous words, Dr. Viktoria Wex hesitates to take any action as she does not understand whether to believe Lucja’s words or not.

After the Marzanna festival, as predicted by Lucja, Dr. Jolanta Wieczorek’s corpse is found floating in the lake nearby. This is also the place where Lucja’s mother is rumored to have already committed suicide. However, when Jolanta’s body is taken out of the water, seeing her fractured skull, Dr. Viktoria doubts the possibility of some outside intervention.

Later, Dr. Viktoria, officer Leon, and detective commissioner, Zofia Kowalska are seen being involved in a heated custody battle of Jolanta’s corpse, against the experts and professionals. Meanwhile, the group of three starts investigating the murder mystery, when many dark secrets and a romantic relationship of Jolanta comes to light. Therefore, the trio delves into the delicate connections and secrets to crack the case.

Der Masuren-Krimi Episode 4 Preview

The upcoming episode, episode 4, of Der Masuren-Krimi, titled “Freund oder Feind” (Friend or Foe), will show Viktoria, Leon, and Zofia delving deeper into the mystery of Jolanta’s death. The investigation will reveal some complex links and thereafter, the real murderer and the reason behind the homicide will be revealed.

Der Masuren-Krimi episode 4 will be released on March 23, 2023, at 8:15 pm in Germany. Each episode of the series is around 1 hour and 30 minutes long. The time schedule for the international viewers is given below:

The fourth episode of Der Masuren-Krimi will be broadcasted on the German television channel, ARD. The episode will also be available on the German streaming platform, ARD Mediathek. The producers of the series have not yet collaborated with any global streaming platforms, therefore the series is for the time being limited to the German audience only.
