Seasons Are Changing, What Does This Mean For Pokemon GO?

As many may already know, the seasons in real life are starting to change. However, how does that impact Pokemon Go or does it even affect the game? Well, the short answer to that is yes, seasons have an impact on Pokemon Go. Seasons actually have a huge impact on the game. How so you may ask? Well, because it is winter right now. Several Pokemon only found in the wintry seasons of the Pokemon games spawn during this time.

In most Pokemon games, the seasons stay the same rather it is summer or winter in real life. Nothing will change that in the Pokemon game. However, in Pokemon go, Niantic uses a special feature that allows Pokemon to spawn based on weather and not just weather either, but seasons as well! With there being certain Pokemon that spawn during certain seasons. That means some of these Pokemon we are seeking today will disappear for almost a whole year.

If there is winter Pokemon you are still currently trying to catch, be sure to catch them now before the season change and we go into spring. The winter Pokemon won’t be completely gone, you just need to wait until winter strikes again. If you are wondering which of these Pokemon will be disappearing here shortly here is a list.

  • Seel Dewgong
  • Swinub Piloswine
  • Stantler
  • Snorunt Glalie
  • Spheal Sealeo
  • Snover Abomasnow
  • Cubchoo

We have about a week before these Pokemon will be going away. If you are after a max level one of these 12 Pokemon. Be sure to catch as many of them as possible before the seasons change. This will give you the extra-large candies you need to power them up. March 1st is the day seasons change in Pokemon go for those who are wondering.

Events Save The Day

Don’t forget that there could be special events that allow for the Pokemon that will go away once winter is over to spawn once again. However, don’t get your hopes up to high. The only events that would really respawn the winter Pokemon would be another generation-specific event or a community day event. If for some change it is snowing in your area after the seasons change, that could allow for wintry Pokemon to spawn in as well. Though, that is highly unlikely for many places after a few weeks in March. There is also one more alternative to getting wintry Pokemon to spawn in Pokemon Go, that would be the Glacial lure module.

It’s not certain what Pokemon will be “spring” specific Pokemon until spring hits as there are new Pokemon in the game. Not to mention more new Pokemon being introduced here soon. More than likely the new Pokemon being introduced are spring-themed Pokemon. Following Niantic’s pattern of releasing Pokemon based on the current events, holidays, or seasons. Needless to say, seasons have a huge impact on the game and what Pokemon spawns. This is a very fun feature to have in Pokemon go because it feels like the game changes with your surroundings.
