Is ROBLOX Really Shutting Down In 2023? A statement spread over the internet claimed that Roblox Corporation is shutting down the Roblox game due to some problems related to the server and player base. And this has kept the players worried about their years of collections and achievements. And it’s genuine because games get shut down and banned every day.

Its been a long time since Roblox Corporation (established in 2004) released the game Roblox in 2006 under creators David Baszucki and Erik Cassel. The game has a long-lasting relationship with its players, especially those who started in 2006. And the first friend you make on Roblox, “builderman,” is the creator David’s username. People might think it’s flawed, but games connect emotionally with the players.

Roblox is one of the most played games, especially in 2022. It ranked third on the list of most-played games in 2022, based on average monthly players. With a current player base of approximately 59M, can something lead to the sudden shutdown of the game? Let’s see what the truth behind the matter is.

Is ROBLOX Really Shutting Down In 2023?

No, Roblox is not shutting down in 2023 or anytime soon. There’s no such report from any official sources. So the statement is clearly a rumor and originated sometime in December 2022. More correctly, it originated when Roblox started becoming popular. And something like this appears almost every year to make the players anxious.

In response to one such rumor, the Roblox Twitter account posted a tweet in 2020 that read, “Remember: don’t believe everything y’all read on the internet!.” Besides, there is no point in shutting it down when the game is at its best. We can be confident that the journey isn’t stopping anytime soon, and if it ever ends, we will know with surety. Though it isn’t shutting down any time soon, the last few years have been tough for the company; let’s see why.

Roblox is a big corporation in the gaming sector with an estimated net worth of $21B. But things haven’t gone exactly the way they wanted. Between 2019 and 2023, they stopped their China project, got stuck in some lawsuits, and faced a scammer network. One of the major setbacks was the China project, so let’s see what happened.

Why Was ROBLOX Shut Down In China?

Roblox Corporation and Tencent got into a partnership in May 2019. They aimed to provide the country’s gamers with an immersive 3D metaverse experience. Dedicated to providing a good gaming experience, Roblox Corp’s CEO David believed that Tencent was the best option in China. In July 2020, they launched a beta version named LuoBuLeSi, with the disclaimer that they would delete all user data after the test period.

What they said happened, but amid the beta trials, something unexpected occurred, and on December 8, 2021, they shut down the entire project indefinitely. Later it was revealed that they had trouble with the Chinese authorities regarding multiple points. The most important was data security, and we know how the situation gets when it comes to privacy and China.

When it happened, everyone expected the developers to return in the next year. The developers assured users they would return with the necessary adjustments, but nothing new has come regarding the Roblox China version, LuoBu. In addition, Roblox reportedly deleted more than 5 million accounts that belonged to the LuoBu project on July 17, 2022.

A Reddit thread elucidated that the accounts of Chinese players appeared on the Forgotten Accounts page of Roblox. A general conclusion from experience says they will return with something new and solid. However, remember, we can never have a probability of one.

A game shuts down when the players are no more interested unless you are from China. Pun aside, if people are interested in playing the game, developers and production studios give their best to get you to them. Trust me, if server and government problems were the reason behind the indefinite shutdown of a game, we wouldn’t even be playing anything. So have faith, keep playing, and don’t believe everything on the internet.
