For those who are not familiar with Bleach, it’s a famous anime based on the Shonen Jump manga of the same name by Tite Kubo. Bleach aired for a staggering eight years from 2004 to 2012 spanning 366 episodes and 4 movies. A perfect anime to binge-watch if you’ve been looking for something that’ll leave a lasting impression for a long time.
Getting into the details, Bleach is about Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who can see and talk to spirits. His life changes when a Soul Reaper (Shinigami) enters his life. Soul Reapers are basically people who send stray souls to where they should be after death and also cleanse Hollows (corrupt souls) of their sins. Their weapons are swords called Zanpakutō, which have unique abilities and powers. Bankai is the second stage of Zanpakutō’s power. It’s considered one of the strongest tools a Shinigami has at his disposal.
Here are the Top 5 Strongest Bankai ranked:
5. Kenpachi Zaraki’s Unnamed Bankai
Kenpachi Zaraki never really figured out the name of his Zanpakutō, unlike every other Shinigami. However, he was still made the captain of the 11th division because of his sheer fighting abilities which allowed him to kill the previous captain of the division. After his first defeat against Ichigo, we see Kenpachi asking his sword its name knowing full well it was far too late to do so. Despite not knowing his sword’s name, he manages to activate his Bankai which turns Kenpachi into a red-skinned demon with unbelievable strength. It also allows him to slash at a distance which makes him even stronger. In short, Kenpachi with his Bankai is a force to be reckoned with.
4) Ichigo Kurosaki’s Tensa Zangetsu
Ichigo’s Bankai is extremely destructive, so much so that it was able to destroy some of the strongest characters in Bleach. Ichigo’s Bankai makes his Zanpakutō a lot smaller, this is because it condenses all its powers giving him insane strength and speed which he can unleash to defeat his enemies. In its true state, Ichigo’s Zanpakutō fuses two blades making it even stronger than before with his inner powers of a Quincy and Soul Reaper being combined. With these powers at his disposal, it is no wonder that Ichigo is the protagonist of the anime.
3. Shunsui Kyōraku’s Katen Kyōkotsu Karamatsu Shinjū
Yes, the name of Shunsui’s Bankai is a mouthful, but still, it’s very effective and very strong. So strong in fact that Shunsui has to make sure that his allies are at a safe distance before activating it. The powers of Katen Kyōkotsu envelope the enemy in a cold, dark and lonely space. Any wounds that are made on Shunsui’s body also reflect on his opponents (much like Hidan from Naruto,) it covers the opponent’s body in spots that start to bleed, it makes them feel inescapable hopelessness and pain. And finally, it allows Shunsui to chop off the enemy’s head with a thread attached to his fingers. Deadly and frightening, this Bankai had to be in the top 3.
2) Kisuke Urahara’s Kannonbiraki Benihime Aratame
Kisuke’s Bankai takes this unique form of a giant woman which allows him to restructure or disassemble anything in his path. This also includes fatally wounding and healing which makes it an absolute beast because it provides both, a great offense and spectacular defense.
The giant woman also acts as a separate entity giving Urahara additional support if he ever needs it and with his brilliant tactics and intellect, he can put this power to use like no one else can even think of. So it’s not just the abilities that make this our number 2, it’s the way Urahara utilizes these abilities making it even stronger than it already is.
1) Genryūsai Yamamoto’s Zanka no Tachi
The old and fragile-looking Head-Captain of all the 13 Divisions of Soul Society. His appearance led many to underestimate him but that quickly changed when the powers of his Zanpakutō were revealed. Ryujin Jakka is the oldest and strongest fire type Zanpakutō to ever exist. In its Bankai state it absorbs all the flames it produces in its earlier state and if cut, any opponent burns into nothingness. So strong that once activated, even the air and moisture of an entire area begin drying up. If used for far too long this Bankai could destroy all enemies, the entire Soul Society and Yamamoto himself. A power so strong, that the user has to make sure he doesn’t take it too far. Truly deserving of the Number 1 spot.
