Fans are in for a huge surprise as newly released HBO’s “House of the Dragon” only premiered the first episode, but has already been renewed for season 2! “House of the Dragon” recently premiered on Aug. 21 on HBO and HBO Max. The first season will have a total of 10 episodes.

As fans finally got to see the highly anticipated first episode of the “Game of Thrones” prequel series, which is set 170 years before the events of the original show. The show is already a massive hit as it has set an HBO record for the premiere of a new show, with nearly 10 million viewers watching! Not only that but HBO has reported that the viewership for the premiere has grown to more than 20 million, over the past week.

While talking about the overwhelming response, the executive vice president of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi has stated how they are beyond proud of what the entire ‘House of the Dragon’ team has accomplished with season 1. It was further added how the phenomenal cast and crew managed to undertake a massive challenge and exceeded all expectations and successfully delivered a show that has already established itself as a must-see-TV. The prequel series will unveil all about the civil war that eventually resulted in the downfall of House Targaryen, the ancestors of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen. Here’s the social media post announcing the renewal.

Orsi concludes by saying that they couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing to life the epic saga of House Targaryen with season 2. Fans are going to see more GOT-related content in the near future as the network reportedly has a Jon Snow sequel series in the works!

Moreover, author George R. R. Martin further revealed in his early interviews that there are more than half a dozen projects in various stages of development. So it seems like Season two of “House of the Dragon” is just one of these upcoming projects and there’s more in line.
