Detective Conan is one of the few anime shows that has managed to maintain its quality over the years. It might not be as popular as the other anime but, it definitely isn’t lacking in quality. TOHO streamed a teaser for Meitantei Conan: Konshō no Fist (Detective Conan: Fist of Blue Sapphire), which is the 23rd anime film in the Detective Conan franchise. The video revealed the staff and the cast for the movie.
The movie will be directed by Tomoka Nagaoka (Tomoka was assistant director on Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter). Takahiro Okura is working on the script and Katsuo Ono is making a comeback to compose the music. The movie will have the regulars in the lineup. Minami Takayama, Wakana Yamazaki, and Rikiya Koyama, Ran Mouri, Kogoro Mouri and Kappei Yamaguchi.
The movie will air on April 12. This movie is set in Singapore and it becomes the first Detective Conan movie to be set outside Japan. A visual which has been created by Gosho Aoyama depicts Singapore’s famous Marina Bay Sands, which will be the site of a murder case in the film. The plot will involve a large gem known as the “Blue Sapphire,” which sank to the bottom of the ocean at the end of the 19th century.
The new movie is focused on Kaito Kid, Makoto Kyogoku and Conan Edogawa. This movie marks the return of Kaito Kid in the Detective Conan films. His last appearance was all the way back in Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno, which was the franchise’s 19th film back in 2015. This movie will also mark the first appearance of Makoto Kyōgoku in the films.
In the film, Makoto, who is an undefeated karate master with 400 wins, confronts Kid as Kid tries to steal the Blue Sapphire. Conan is dragged to Singapore by Kaitō Kid against his will.
The 22nd movie, Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer, opened on April 13 in Japan. The movie is the highest-earning film in the franchise. In Japan, the film has earned more than 9.1 billion yen (about US$80.3 million).
