If there will be a Sonic, the Hedgehog 2 is actually, for now, the least weird thing to come out of 2020. However, it looks like a lifetime ago since the backlash to its terrifying initial trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog. And still, the movie defied all the expectations to be actually quite great and did even much better than that at the box office with more than $300 million worldwide, thereby making it the fourth-biggest movie of 2020 to date. After all of its critical and commercial successes, lately Paramount confirmed that the development has already started on a sequel in May 2020, with director Jeff Fowler and the writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller all back for its sequel. You can stream it on Amazon.
Jeff Fowler said that he was already “doing some of the plotting and some scheming for its future movies” when he was working on the initial movie, so at least he will get to realize those, as well as build upon that credits scene with a beloved character.
But what all we can expect from Sonic the Hedgehog 2?
Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Release date

Sonic the Hedgehog: Ending
So, after unwittingly putting himself in all the sights of Dr. Robotnik, now Sonic has to use his rings to escape to some other world. There is only a single problem, though. However, he dropped them when he was surprised by Tom (James Marsden), who himself discovered Sonic hiding in his shed, and one of the rings opened the portal to San Francisco that they all fell through.
Tom now agrees to help Sonic recover all the rings, and the pair now go on a road trip to San Francisco, avoiding Dr. Robotnik and his great drone army along the way. Moreover, Dr. Robotnik wants to capture Sonic to use his “extraordinary” power to give his drones an unimaginable power.
It all completely builds to their final confrontation between Sonic and Dr. Robotnik. However, using the power from one of Sonic’s quills, Dr. Robotnik chases Sonic worldwide and all thanks to the rings’ portals.
They all end up back in the Green Hills, and just when it seems that Dr. Robotnik has now defeated Sonic, Tom somehow steps in to protect his friend.
Sonic then recovers, supercharges and, starts using one of his rings to open a portal to a mushroom planet, and then manages to destroy Dr. Robotnik’s ship and later pushing him through the portal before it closes.
Certainly, Sonic moves in with Tom and his wife Maddie (Tika Sumpter), and the US government now decides to let Sonic live in peace, and erasing any existence of their work with Dr. Robotnik.
However, the first credits sequence catches up with Dr. Robotnik on the mushroom planet, then 87 days later and sporting a look more in line with all the video games.
