In this article, we will discuss the release date of “Over The Moon”. Over The Moon is an upcoming American-Chinese computer-animated adventure and musical comedy film. It is directed by Glen Kaene and co-directed by John Kahrs in their directional debut. Produced by Pearl Studio, with animation by Sony Pictures Imageworks, this movie is a much anticipated 2020 release!
Over The Moon – Plot
The plot is fairly simple and tells the story of a girl named Fei Fei who builds and flies a rocket ship to meet the moon Goddess, Chang’e, and ends up on an unexpected quest.
Chang’e, originally known as Heng’e is the Chinese goddess of the Moon. She is the subject of several legends in Chinese mythology, most of which incorporate several of the following elements: Houyi the archer, a benevolent or malevolent emperor, an elixir of life, and the Moon. She is married to the archer, Houyi. The literal meaning of her name is “Chang the Beautiful”.
There are many tales that surround the goddess of the Moon, one of them being the story of her immortality. It is said that in the very distant past, ten suns had risen together into the skies and scorched the Earth, thus causing hardship for the people. The archer Yi, shot down nine of them, leaving just one Sun, and was given the elixir for immortality as a reward. He did not consume it straight away, but let Chang’e keep it with her, as he did not want the power of immortality without his beloved wife Chang’e. However, while Yi was out hunting, his apprentice Fengmeng broke into his house and tried to force Chang’e to give him the elixir. She refused and to prevent it from falling into his hands, drank it herself. Chang’e then flew upward toward the heavens, choosing the Moon as a residence, as she loved her husband and hoped to live close to him. Yi discovered what had transpired and was very distraught, so he displayed the fruits and cakes that Chang’e had liked and sacrificed them for her.
In older versions of the story, Chang’e stole the elixir from Yi, drank it, and flew to the Moon so that her husband could not go after her.
Worship Of The Goddess Chang’e
The worship of the Goddess of the Moon is quite elaborate. On Mid-Autumn Festival, the full Moon night of the eighth lunar month, an open air altar is set up facing the Moon for the worship of Chang’e. New pastries are put on the altar for her to bless. She is said to endow her worshippers with beauty.
