It was rumored that season two of hit anime from 2019, Vinland Saga will be released soon after the end of season one. But the Season Two of this anime is still under early production and nowhere close to release. So much for the hype! A short clip was released that revealed some visuals from later arcs of the manga hinting what to expect in the newer season.

Is Vinland Saga Season Two Getting Delayed?

Yes, It is delayed. There is no date for the next season yet. It would have been released in early 2021, which could have been delayed further due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This can push the release date into Late 2021 to Early 2022, depending on the severity of the pandemic. The lockdown will affect the further production of Season 2. The second season is being animated by Wit Studio too.

About Vinland Saga:

Vinland Saga is a story based on the Viking era in the 11th century featuring many real historical figures from that era along with fictional tales. It is inspired by the historic battles in the accounts like The Flateyjarbók, The Saga of the Greenlanders and The Saga of Eric the Red. Vinland Saga has had a huge reception for its manga in Japan since it started in 2005. The manga has published 23 volumes, and the story is in the final arc. It has more than 5 million copies in print as of 2018.

It is considered among the greatest manga ever produced by the manga reader community. Vinland Saga remained among the many classic hit manga that never got an anime adaptation until it finally got animated by Wit Studio under the director Shuhei Yabuta. Season One ran on NHK General TV based on the hit manga for 24 episodes. It aired from July 7, 2019, to December 29, 2019. The studio did a great job of delivering the theme of the original manga while having solid animation of the modern era.

The Vinland Saga anime became widely popular due to its robust accounts as well as the spectacular animation. IGN put it in the list of best anime series of the 2010s. The Vinland Saga won the “Anime of the Year,” “Best Sceneries and Visuals,” and “Best Action & Adventure Anime” categories of “Anime Trending Awards 2020” among other awards.

The plot of Vinland Saga Season 1:

Thors Snorresson, a raging Viking fighting at the sea battle at Hjörungavágr, sees no end to the battle and decides to desert his men after he is thrown into the sea. He was tired of all the killing. Now, after fifteen years, Thors has moved to Iceland, where he lives a wonderful life. He has his wife Helga and his kids, Thorfinn and Ylva. Still, after all this time, he wants to get on an adventure like old times and see what the world has turned into. He thinks of the land called Vinland. He was told by the great adventurer Leif Erickson that it is a magical place.

There is a war waging between England and Denmark. As the battle intensifies, the English slaughter a group of Vikings in Northumbria. Thorfinn’s village is visited by Jomsviking led by the ferocious Floki, who wants to recruit Thors in their war against the English. Thorfinn belonged to the Jomsviking band back in the days. He has no choice but to join the band of Jomsvikings to protect his village from them. He joins Floki with some men and a ship. However, Askeladd, the leader of a band of a hundred Vikings along with Floki scheme to massacre Thors and their crew before they ever reach the war. They want to punish them for abandoning their fellow Vikings in the sea battle fifteen years ago.
