Tom plays for the University of Iowa men’s wrestling team under the 174 lbs. weight category. Also known as Iowa Hawkeyes, they are the second-best team in the history of the NCAA.

According to HawkEyeSports, Nelson was born on February 11, 1999, to Terry Brands and Michelle Brands. He also has a young sister named Sydney Brand. Nelson married his long-time best friend and lover, Olivia Brands on July 18, 2021. They were together for more than two years before finally getting married.

He is currently majoring in sports and recreation management (the study of coaching and sports instruction). Nelson keeps his fans updated with the major events of his life through Instagram. It was through his social media that fans knew about his recent interest in climbing, and he is also quite active on Twitter.

With a height of 5’9”, Nelson hasn’t had his big win yet, but he has a lot of experience with numerous weight categories. He won the titles for 138-pound, 152-pound, and 160-pound in the years 2016, 2017, and 2018 respectively. Before which, he also won the Iowa High School State Championship three times. 

In 2022, he gained the 14th position in the national rankings, with his best being 6th in 2020-21. In the same season, he secured the 12th position in the NCAA Championships.
