Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Camden, London but moved to Chester, UK when I was four! This is where I grew up.

What inspired you to follow your dreams?
A lot of aspects are responsible for my seemingly concerning positive outlook on my future!
Both of my parents worked in the film and theater industry, and they both did extremely well in their careers.
They were so driven and loved what they did, and I thought, why can’t my life be like that too? They are/were both incredibly artistic and talented. But unfortunately my dad passed away when I was 10 years old.
So I would say my parents’ are my main inspiration in believing that I can get to wherever I truly want to be in life, career wise!
How long have you been at it?
I have been interested in art since I can remember. Disney was a huge artistic inspiration of mine when I was really young.
I also used to draw around people’s faces on newspapers.
In Primary School my friends used to ask me to draw them dinosaurs and other animals for them to colour in!
But throughout my teenage years I thought I wanted to be a photographer, so I pursued that path for about 5 years.
It was only halfway through last year when I quit my job as a Fashion photographer that I decided that I wanted to shift my course to drawing.

Is it important to you to remain true to yourself, despite what society may tell you?
Absolutely. For years upon years I was constantly trying to reinvent myself to fit the social guidelines of what people wanted you to be, but I could never quite get there. Recently I’ve realised to screw that and concentrate on what I love to do and what makes me happy! And I am so content on where I am at the moment. If you change yourself, you will only have to keep on top of that persona and it will be exhausting. You must let people accept you for you. Those who don’t most likely don’t even accept themselves!

How long did it take you to get as good as you are and do you feel you still have room to grow?
I’ve always been drawing here and there, trying to strengthen what skills i do have. But it will always take time to improve.
I feel like I have so much more to learn, and so much more to develop! I constantly compare myself to other artists and think that my work isn’t half as good as theirs. I will never be 100% satisfied with my work, but what artist is?

What are you future goals/plans for you and your talents?
I would absolutely love to become a character designer for games or animation/media.
I want to keep practicing my art skills with all types of media, not just pencil, but paint, digital etc!

So, What’s next up for Emily?
Well I’m currently studying a degree in 3D modelling for Games and Media! So more practice in the 3D world, and hopefully more drawings in other mediums. I’d love to get better at digital art!

Lastly, what would you tell someone who was considering giving up on their dreams or who feels like they don’t “have what it takes” to keep them going?
Honestly, I think about giving up all the time. Sometimes I can’t get to sleep some nights because I think “what’s the point in doing what I’m doing? There are so many people better than me out there.” But then I tell myself everyone has to start somewhere. Experts nowadays were novices once! Yes there are people that are good, but who is going to replace them in the future? We are! I LOVE drawing, so why should I give up on something that makes me happy?
If you want to achieve something, you must put in the time, effort and hard work. Trust me, when you look back you will see the progress you’ve made and you’ll be so proud of yourself! Do it for yourself than for anyone else.
