What’s up! Otaku Fam!,
We are back with another amazing Otaku Highlight! This time with the incredibly talented Aiden Guo! This guy does some of the best digital paintings I’ve ever witnessed, um, ever! When I seen his work, I thought to myself, “I’ve got to get this guy on Otaku Highlights ASAP!” So, without further adieu let’s get right in on this exclusive interview with a fellow manga/anime lover
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Xi’an China, and stayed there until the age of 6, when I moved to Beijing. I then moved to Canada soon after and has since stayed in Canada.
What inspired you to get into illustration?
Watching anime and things like Vocaloid inspired me to draw fanart, but the moment I really wanted to begin drawing was due to a love for the touhou project characters and the various artists in the forums who drew. Watching other artists draw my favorite characters really got me hyped for creating art, haha. I’ve since strayed away from Touhou Project however, and do art for anything that interests me.
How long have you been at it?
I began drawing in June 2012 when I got my tablet. I am almost 5 full years in now.
What equipment do you use and what’s your favorite tool out of them?
My favorite equipment would have to be the cintiq, but the intuos5 has been with me ever since I began drawing, so it has a special place in my heart.
How long did it take you to get as good as you are and do you feel you still have room to grow?
I think things really picked up in 2015, when I finally became good enough to be noticed by more people. I think I improve in compressed in jumps, with long periods of slow progress in between. This differs from person to person though. There are many things that I still need to learn, and I find my weakest area is drawing objects and buildings, since they require symmetry.
What are you future goals/plans for you and your talents?
I would like to try and animate in the future and have applied for animation programs.
So, What’s next up for Aiden?
Generally, I’d love to draw more fanart soon as well as draw original stuff too haha! I currently just completed making art for my first personal fan artbook of the mobile game “Deemo”. It will be sold soon and I look forward to it! Lastly I’d love to thank Otakukart for this interview!
Lastly, for everyone who wants to get in contact with you what is the best way to reach out to you?
I can be reached at Pixiv, Deviantart, Twitter and Instagram.
