Charmander is known for being the generation one Fire-Type starter and for evolving into one of the most iconic Pokemon in the franchise.
Pokedex Entry: The Lizard Pokemon, The flame that burns at the tip of its tail is an indication of its emotions. The flame wavers when Charmander is enjoying itself. If the Pokemon becomes enraged, the flame burns fiercely.

Summary of Stats:
In the main series games Charmander has average Attack, Special Attack, and Speed. But low HP, Defense, and Special Defense. This makes Charmander a fast attacker Pokemon, meant to faint the opponent before they even have a chance to hit Charmander.
In Pokemon Go, however, Charmander has average Attack, below average Defense, and fairly low Stamina and HP.
Pokemon Go uses a formula to change a Pokemon’s main series stats into the stats they have in Pokemon Go. In this formula the main series Speed stat is divided between both the Attack and Defense stat in Pokemon Go. However, this formula greatly undervalues Speed and heavily overvalues Attack.
Because of this Charmander has a low Max CP and is the weakest starter by a large margin. (Until it evolves)
In Pokemon Go, Charmander evolves into Charmeleon with 25 Charmander candies, and then evolves into Charizard after getting an additional 100 Charmander Candies.
Charizard is one of the best Fire Types in Pokemon Go and is the strongest of the fully evolved starters so it is defiantly worth grinding for Charmander candies.
In the main series games, Charmander mostly learns Fire type special attacks by leveling up.
The Quick Moves Charmander can use are:
- Scratch: a Normal type move that does 12 Damage per Second (DPS) which is high for Quick Move.
- Ember: The lowest DPS Fire type quick move. It normally does 9.52 DPS but due to Charmander also being Fire type that gives the move a “Same Type Attack Bonus” (STAB) so when Charmander uses Ember its DPS is actually 11.90.
The Charge Moves that Charmander can use are:
- Flame Burst: A below average DPS Fire type Charge move. Its normal DPS is 14.29 which is increases to 17.86 when used by Charmander.
- Flamethrower: An average strength Fire type Charge move. Its usual DPS is 18.97, which is boosted to 23.71 when used by a Fire type like Charmander.
- Flame Charge: The lowest DPS Fire type Charge Move. Its normal DPS is 8.06 but that is increased to 10.08 due to STAB.
The highest DPS moveset for Charmander is Scratch, and Flamethrower.
The best Gym Defender moveset for Charmander is Ember, and Flamethrower.

Where can I find Charmander:
Fire type Pokemon supposedly have a higher chance to spawn in residential areas, cities, neighborhoods, areas with a dry/arid climate, areas with a warmer climate, beaches, and parks.
You will have more successful hunting by playing around more populated areas, and you shouldn’t play anywhere unsafe or on private property.
